I can't believe the production went THERE. If you can make it to episode six and beyond, you'll understand. It was weak, uninspired and a complete betrayal. They did it deliberately, of course, pandering to what they believed most audiences wish to see. In other words, their motives, like their intended audience, were the most common. They'd be able to boast more views, more positive word of mouth, and, therefore, get more money.
The acting is fine, I've always liked Farrell, and the production value is fine, thus my score is above zero.
But I couldn't make it past episode seven. I didn't care what might happen next. The characters were no longer real. And I will certainly NOT watch any further installments of any new seasons.
I would much prefer watching something that appeals to a smaller audience. Something odd like The Big Fix, or Klute, or something more firmly in the genre, like Harper. Or if you're looking for a limited series that's deserving of your time, watch season one of True Detective.

This is a thriller in the old definition of the genre. The unbearable situation is unbearable for us too, without resorting to over the top action and histrionic performances. Its implied menace keeps us involved to the end. A good watch. For those interested in trivia, I was a longtime friend of the daughter of actor Ross Martin, who many of us remember as Artemus Gordon in the Wild Wild West series. She told me that when her father learned that part of Red Lynch's menace was his asthmatic voice, he searched, as good actors do, for something that would evoke menace in an instantly recognizable way. After some thought, he decided to imitate the menacing hiss of a cougar. We both thought he made the perfect choice.
I enjoyed the film. The acting was good, the effects believable and the underlying message important.
