  • I actually watched the show...

...Unlike a lot of haters, who just don't like the idea of a strong female lead, or pre-judge the show before it even releases!

The first episode of most shows isn't overwhelming. It takes time to set the stage, give some context, introduce characters. That's called setting the stage. It's a big part of story-telling. Here's what I saw: In the fashion of Deadpool, She-Hulk will engage with the audience. They didn't overcook it, but enough to make it enjoyable. Maslany has just the right touch of sass, brains and bad-assery to give the character potential. Add Ruffalo and Cox to the cast mix and I think there is good potential here.

And for those of us who watch shows before we rant about them, let's see what episode 2 brings this week.

  • Not just another agency show

If you were tuning in to get another FBI or Quantico, you'll be disappointed. The show doesn't take itself that seriously. But that's ok. They don't intend to. While there is action and adventure, this show is built on the unique personalities of the characters. Scott Foley is charming, funny and believable. No stranger to action, he leans in to the better side of humanity. Lauren Cohen is the exact opposite. She thinks the worst, expects the worst and goes in hard. Unlike her role in the Walking Dead, Lauren channels the "tough as nails CIA feel-nothing Clint Eastwood" vibe. When the two interact, it creates an enjoyable tension. And there is always a little action to satisfy the adrenaline need. This show is fast becoming one of my top 3. Highly recommend you tune in.

  • Only if you can handle change

I'll admit, the first time I watched this show my thoughts were "He's not Magnum" and "Female Higgins doesn't seem right". However, I kept watching, curious to see where it went. After all, I really enjoyed the original show. The question was, could I get past the new cast? The answer is yes. Perdita Weeks is an incredible actor, who brings all the disdain of the old Higgins, with a fresh feel. She introduces a complex and compelling character you want to learn more about. So then, it was all about Magnum. Could Jay Hernandez pull it off? It is, after all, a very tough act to follow. Jay doesn't try to be Tom Selleck, and that's probably very wise. What he does well, however, is channel the character. The first episode, I'll admit, was not a strong start . It felt a little too "action hero-ish" and not enough warm and fuzzy, man with a conscience, help anyone on a dime, all-around good guy. That has changed. Jay brings it. He's a character I enjoy watching and have to come to admire. Throw in Tim Kang, who I enjoyed in the Mentalist, and you have a show that you can enjoy. Great cast chemistry, heart-warming stories. So, for the new generation that doesn't know what the old show was like, this is a good watch. For the old generation that is stuck in what was... If you don't watch it because you're hung up on nostalgia, you're missing out!
