So I got talked into watching a season of this show and it was the most depressing, toxic pile of trash I have ever seen. If these people represent the future of human civilization then I can honestly say humanity doesn't deserve a future. Luckily I know these horrible, toxic people only represent the worst of the worst and they're paraded around for normal folks to laugh at and mock, but it still saddens me that people like this exist. Then I think about how they are allowed to vote and it makes me wonder about the long term viability of democracy itself. I suppose if you have a complete lack of self esteem then this may just be the boost you're looking for, otherwise it merely serves as yet more evidence that the movie Idiocracy successfully predicted our future with uncanny accuracy.
Not sure why this movies is getting decent reviews because if you were in it from the start of the franchise this is a huge let down. However, if you're comparing it to most of the horror dreck tossed over the fence in the last 5-10 years I guess it might seem solid. Just depends on where you're coming from.
Pros: The beginning may be the best opening of any in the franchise. The acting and scenery is great, the setup is great, the execution is great. Unfortunately it goes over a Grand Canyon sized cliff afterwards. The ending is pretty good too even if the context for it is so absurd it felt like we were suddenly watching a completely different movie. Maybe that was one of the reshoots people are talking about? Seriously, watch that final scene and really think about what's going on there in the light of what just happened. Or don't and maybe enjoy it for what's on the surface instead.
Cons: The biggest problem is the lead character who has the screen presence of a saltine cracker. No joke but when we're first introduced to her I said to myself "ah, so this is about a middle aged Hispanic woman who goes back to college, that's a cool twist". Took until the 3rd scene with her that I realized she was supposed to be 20 but that was even more confusing when we learn dad is Asian and Mom is white so we checked some boxes at least I guess. But she wasn't alone here, the casting was largely terrible across the board which I assume is a casualty of the budget but who knows.
Coming in at a close second is simply a bad script. The beginning is gold and the end is solid enough, but that middle hour is about as exciting as a trip to the DMV. You know how you got sorta invested in the characters in the first 2 or 3 movies? You don't have to worry about that here. So little happened in that second act I literally almost fell asleep in the theater. I'm not even kidding.
Would I watch it again? Probably not, and you probably shouldn't either. If you're craving a good Final Destination fix, do yourself a favor and just rewatch one of the first 3 instead.

To get right to it, the first 2 seasons of this show as well as most of the Australian version is pretty good TV, which makes this show kinda hard to review. I gave it 5 stars overall but that's only because this 3rd season is a 1 at best. The premise of the show is basically like every other dating show minus all the ick of the terrible people so I won't comment on the mechanics, but where season 3 of this show goes off the rails is apparently some network droid decided that with this season they had to it cringe it all up and make it as gross as all the other dating shows (see The Bachelor, et al). So if you like the awful types of superficial people on all the other dating shows who are really just wanting to parlay their appearance into some sort of celebrity career (and the horrible music that goes with it) then you'll love this abomination, however if you've watched earlier seasons of this or the Aussie version and think this will be just as good and entertaining then you're going to be extremely disappointed.
