Honestly did not remember a thing from the first movie so it was nice of them to include a summary before the actual movie started. But I would've enjoyed this even without a refresher because there's really no connection between the two movies. I liked the friendships forged between the characters and the plot twist wasn't really surprising to me - like I clocked it the moment the character appeared on screen. Anyway, this was a pretty fun watch and the humour in it was right up my alley.
This was an intriguing courtroom movie centred around familial relationships and what it means to hold up justice. I thought the characters were written well and their motives were clear but evidence of their crime needed to be unearthed. I really liked how the ending turned out and how the protagonist was able to creatively spin the truth in order to get her desired outcome - it just shows how thick blood is compared to water.
This is a certified tearjerker and I don't even know how many times I cried watching this. The writers did an amazing job on the script and it's clear how much respect they have for their work and characters, being able to write such nuanced characters and relationships. But a good story is made greater by its actors and Jackson Yee who plays Liu Chunhe is a true talent, bringing to life a poignant story about a person with cerebral palsy. The familial relationship between Liu Chunhe and his grandmother is a gem as she treats him like a normal person and sees him for who he is, not what he lacks. Under her care, Liu Chunhe grows wings and discovers his independence and it's such important representation for the cerebral palsy community.
