This is just what you need if you are looking for a film that is a light and fun "escape" from our harsh reality. I love Robin Williams but films like Mrs. Doubtfire were just a little too "off color" for my taste. This movie was more of a family friendly film. A great cast including Jeff Daniels and the singer "JoJo" put this over the top to make it an above average movie. This also features an entertaining finale with all the cast singing. This is definitely a comedy through and through, as the ending of the story is done purely for a joke. As a joke it is hilarious. If you take it seriously you will wonder why all the loose ends of the plot were not tied up. A great movie.
Biopics usually drive me crazy because they overemphasize the dark aspects of a person's life in the supposed interest of being "real." I can't help but think that Elvis was a person who enjoyed his life. He frequently smiled and laughed, rode horses, played football, played pranks on his friends and lived life as a great adventure. It all came tumbling down at the end when his prescription drug addiction got the best of him. But his life had many high points. I feel that Elvis in this movie was portrayed as a well meaning, good hearted person who got tangled up in some difficult situations. This film most of all seems to be a tribute to Elvis and on Elvis' side. Austin Butler is remarkable in the role. He has the dancing moves down so accurately. And the speaking voice is pretty good too. Sometimes it sounds just like Elvis. Elvis had fun in his life; it is good to see some of that in this movie.
