"Superman" by the late Richard Donner is simply a masterpiece. It's from a time when ingenuity & ability to create were still powerful. The movie tells the origins of Superman, from his infancy in Krypton to his revelation to Earth. He needs to fight against Lex Luthor to save the world & balance his human side with his alien one.
The cast is brilliant (Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman & Marlon Brando among the others!) & the story smoothly told. Of course, it was back in 1978, the pace & the mood were different, but it's still enjoyable & has a sort of naive nostalgia attached to it.
I love it & the fact that it made the way to every other reboot of Superman it's awesome. I absolutely recommend you to watch the movie if you love true superheroes.

In "Man of Steel" we see the origins of Superman, from Krypton to Earth, from death the a new hope. With the help of Lois Lane & humanity, Kal-El will have to face an old enemy from his planet (General Zod) & save his new world.
I really loved the movie, Zack Snyder did great: his fault would have been in the sequels to much rush & heroes together, lack of character development & a crumbling universe. But here he made a wonderful movie, epic & full of action.
Obviously Henry Cavill stole the scene, he is Superman, and still had so much to give to Clark Kent/Kal-El if DC didn't rush to compete with Marvel. The rest of the cast did fairly well, but I would've chosen a better Lois & maybe add Supergirl.
One thing is for sure: Superman Is the HERO, no matter what other thinks, & Krypton's mythology, language & lore is so fascinating to explore.
I wish there were more movies like this one & we had a better run than Marvel, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully one day we'll see another Superman of this level or even better!

Western Front, June 1944 (WWII): On the first days after the bloody landing in Normandy's Omaha Beach, Captain's Miller & a detachment of his men receive a particular mission, "Saving Private Ryan", a soldier who has lost all his brothers around the world to spare his mother of another lost son. But behind enemy lines isn't an easy task, and certainly finding a soldier named Ryan is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Yet the selected rescuing unit does its job selflessly & even if sometimes everything feels pointless, they persist.
This Spielberg film is marvelous in its equilibrium between humanity, war, gore & touching scenes: every man portrayed here does some brave actions but has doubts & sometimes asks the point of a fight that is for freedom of the world but at a high cost of human blood. The cast is legendary & effectively directed, the scenes powerful, the pace well-balanced between slow talking moments & fast battle scenes. Violence & humanity on both sides are well represented & makes this movie a forever masterpiece. Also the accuracy of the scenario & the intensity of the D-Day scenes are excellent.
An absolute must watch to remember the men who did history & saved Europe from extinction.
