  • 8/10 movie

The Tashkent Files is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language political thriller film written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Shweta Basu Prasad, Mandira Bedi, Pallavi Joshi, Vinay Pathak, and Pankaj Tripathi. It is based on the mysterious death of India's second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 11 January 1966, and the subsequent cover-up.

The film was released on 12 April 2019 to mixed reviews from critics. However, it was a box office success, grossing over 100 crore (Usd 13million) worldwide.

The film has been praised for its performances, screenplay, and direction. Shweta Basu Prasad's performance as Raagini, a young journalist investigating Shastri's death, has been particularly lauded. The film has also been praised for its realistic portrayal of Indian politics and its willingness to tackle controversial subjects.

However, the film has also been criticized for its slow pacing and its lack of subtlety. Some critics have also accused the film of being biased and of promoting a particular political agenda.

Overall, The Tashkent Files is a well-made and thought-provoking film that is worth watching. It is a must-see for anyone interested in Indian politics or the history of the country.

I give the film an 8/10 rating.
