In "The Last Breath", I was rooting for the sharks. It's one of those horror movies where the characters are so flimsy and shallow, you root for the villain. In this case, CGI sharks with more personality than the humans.
The writing was also poor. Everything they said about sharks is wrong. And 80 year old shipwreck won't have working doors, medical equipment, and basically remain in the same condition as the day it sunk. The dialogue was poorly dubbed, they were wearing masks for most of the movie. But after a while, it got really annoying and obviously fake.
The entire movie was basically a waste of time. On demand cash grab.

This is a well scripted and beautifully shot film. It's chilling and thought provoking. During watching this movie, I wondered what is the point and where is it going? Which is addressed mostly at the end. Though I missed several subtle clues that on a re-watch made things clear.
This is not a nail-biting creature fest. This is more of a gut-wrenching, slow burning dive into madness and mental illness. I think it was another comment that I found somewhere that describes this film best. It's a movie about a person who lives inside their own mind and the real world is their dream.
There's a rotting corpse or two or maybe more, yes. And gross things. And police, child abuse, and horrifying and cringey things. The film definitely checks those boxes.
There's also a glimpse into the mind of someone very broken. And a strange redemption.
And the filming is very well done that drew me in and captivated me even though I was thoroughly confused at time.
Definitely worth a watch and both creepy and eye opening at the same time. Can't get this flick off the brain yet, I keep finding things I missed that are piecing this thing together. Which also reflects the complexity and mysteries of mental illness in general.

Lured in by the smoke and fire and mysterious trailer. What a lie. This movie stinks as bad as a pot house.
It's not really a horror movie or a slow burner. There's no plot, or it's so weak and poorly executed, I didn't notice it. Just a bunch of woke young adults smoking weed and acting high and stupid. If I employed trimmers who smoked more than they trimmed, they'd be deep sixed too.
The filming was amateur. The movie tried so hard to paint the Redwood Forest like some grizzly dark place filled with backwoods monsters. The movie did however accomplish establishing that the characters were just city brats who ignorantly bought into every misconception, misunderstanding, and disrespect for nature, wilderness, and people who live there. What we might think of as a typical city snob.
Where's the plot? What's the point? What is the story telling us? I don' know. Maybe that you shouldn't write and produce a movie while under the influence of weed and alcohol. I think I have an idea what they tried to say, but this movie is so poorly executed, I can only guess. It's just a strung together series of senseless scenes with bad background music. I think they were trying to have scenes to make an existing high/trip more trippy. It failed. They're just weird and boring.
No way ever would I recommend this movie, it's a complete fail.
Tip: When writing while high, write down ideas then review them when you sober up.
