This season wastes no time cutting straight to the chase laying out threads for the season arc and painting a compelling mystery. The tone is audacious and clearly RTD and the actors had a lot of fun with and it translates to the audience. Is the pacing at points really choppy? Yeah but it makes up for that short fall with a bonkers story and a great new companion. Fan theories are already coming to light and it will be intresting to see if RTD learned from his mistakes with last season delivering on the theories hes creating and using less red herrings. Belinda makes for a really fun character and she feels natural nothing feels forced and the bond between her and the doctor is an intresting juxstaposition with that of the doctor and rub. In short this episode might be a bit too zany for some but if you sit back and enjoy the ride you'll have a great time. Also that cliff hanger was brilliant.
Brave new world lays the ground works for what could be a fascinating political thriller but is too scared to commit to it. A lot is hidden in the trailers, for example the movies big villain whose plan is interesting but half baked. There's also a sense of mystery bits it's executed so lazily and almost comes across as inserted in reshoots. The acting is fine no one stands out but everyone clearly struggles to deliver some of the poorly written dialogue. A lot of the dialogue consists of "we must find the buyer" "we must stop the bad guy" and it's just really lazy there's some lose character arcs but nothing too interesting. That being said credit where credit is due brave new world is the first marvel move to bring everything into focus the aftermath of eternals, the ramifications of all the other projects. And it was nice to finally see some pay off. The action is good with some really cool set pieces but the cgi is really bad at points. I would love to see what the movie was like before reshoots as a lot of the content from set photos were cut like Rosa Salazar isn't even in the movie anymore.
Episode 8 is the main "wrap up" episode for Agatha all along bringing together all our story lines and wrapping the majority of them up. A decision that seemed quite odd for the penultimate episode but having now seen episode 9 it makes complete sense. Do we get an awesome final battle? Not really. Do we get a satisfying answer to all the questions and more fantastic character work? Absolutely.
The budget is definitely stretched this episode with some of the magic effects looking a lot worse than that of wandavision. Which isn't surprising given the entire show is cheaper than two episodes of wandavision. The acting was on point, the writing worked as well as it could with the budget and the directing was fine.
