  • First season vs second season

I really liked the first season of this show. Even though he didn't direct every episode, Tim Burton's style was felt throughout the season. I can't say the same for season 2. Style-wise, his episodes were great, but the other seem like a poor-man's version. Also, the season is kind of a mess. Too many subplots, too many characters, too much that didn't have anything to do with the story...it's just all over the place. Even though it was three years later, story-wise it seems rushed...almost like the writers weren't ready when Netflix decided they wanted another season. Just my 1/50 of a dollar.

  • Missing the Point

Many reviewers of this episode are talking about how it reflects on the current social media climate, and that might have been the intention of the writers and director, but I think it's actually an allegory for what's on the way if our U. S. government adopts a socialist economy. There will be social credits, much like China is currently using, and the government (or other entities) can set guidelines and minimum "social credit" scores in order to do or acquire certain things. For example, if a person shows signs of being anti-government, or being on the "opposite" side of the fence, then the government can lower your social credit score, which means you won't be allowed to do certain things. It's just one more example of how we're losing our freedoms and ability to make our own decisions in this country. I'm just glad I'm old and will probably be dead before all of this will be put in place, unless, of course, major changes happen soon.

  • Ferris Bueller Wannabe?

We're about 20 minutes into this and I don't think it's very funny. Maybe I'm too old, or maybe it's because I can't stand movies that break the fourth wall and are narrated, especially if the narration isn't funny. If you want to write this style, write a book and not a screenplay. So far this movie is just annoying. A lot of these reviews are touting the performance of the lead but I think she's annoying and entitled. Plus, she doesn't need to do much acting when she's talking directly to the camera. I yearn for the days of comedies that are actually funny. Alleged clever dialog doesn't make it humorous.
