I was a little skeptical at first when I read about this new show. I loved 20,000 Leagues under the Sea when I was a kid. They surely could not recreate the magic from that show.
The first couple of episodes were meh. But around episode 4 or 5 I started feeling like a kid again on some fantastic adventure. Is it flawless? No. Can it be cheesy at times? Yes. But everything about it is done earnestly, with a sort of steampunk ambiance. Don't give up on it. By episode 6 it hits it's stride. But do suspend your tendency to disbelief.

Adam Sandler's a great guy. Very likeable. But he's just not that funny. I tried giving this movie a chance. After half an hour....nothing. Not a laugh, a little chuckle or smile. There's just nothing funny. In fact it was boring. I can't believe it's averaging more than 6 stars. Save yourself some time. Life's too short. Maybe go trim your toenails. Sorry Adam. If we ever meet I'd love to buy you a couple rounds of drinks.
Exactly half way through right now. And I had to stop for a minute to say "huh"? I love Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. I was looking forward to some light entertainment but come on, it needs to be at least a little involving. The plot is kind of scattered and hard to follow at first. The little comedic bits were amusing but short lived. This is just not really good writing. It's kind of lazy and I bet the film makers knew it. The actors acted half assed as if they didn't really care. But I don't fault them so much as the makers, the writers and the direction. This is not the big leagues. So watch if you've nothing else to do but be forewarned. Lower your expectations.
