In TodayWorld, this movie is a refreshing breath of fresh air! This is a movie that the whole family can enjoy without parents having to worry about what CurrentYear talking point is being forced upon innocent, impressionable children.
The Princess Nefer (ahem.. Nefertiti, in case that wasn't obvious) is cute, can sing and still kick ace when necessary. Yet, she still understands traditional familial roles and is not afraid to let her man take the reins - literally - when it's required, even if she takes an hour and a half to come around.
Thut (ahem... Tutankhamen, again, in case that wasn't obvious) is a neurotic specimen, but in overcoming his fears, shows that we can all rise above it.
The singing is not overdone and Nefer (or rather the singing voice actor) is pretty good. Not a single rap "song" in the whole thing! There is a Nickleback song, though. Not sure why they get so much hate, but I happen to like them. Doesn't really fit with the whole Egyptian vibe, but.. I can dig it :)
This is a fun, family friendly film. (Don't you just love alliteration?) I can only assume the types of people who are giving this such negative reviews. They're more the ModernDay Disney crowd. Take that into account when deciding for yourself whether this is for you or not.

Never go by reviews. Mine included. I have found that what one person loves, another will hate and vice versa. I honestly do not understand why such hatred over this film. I really did NOT like the original Pet Semetary (HATED the ModernDay remake) but I actually enjoyed this one. This could have been a stand alone movie and it would have still been just as good.
The cast is a smattering of once-beens I grew up watching and enjoyed seeing them again. I didn't even recognize Samantha Mathis (from "Pump Up the Volume") and apparently missed her name in the credits. I recognized the name Henry Thomas, but had no clue that that was the little boy from "ET." Of course everybody knows David Duchovny (from the "X-Files") and Pam Grier (from... well, everything!). They all did a good job, as did the other five main characters.
As for the plot... it made about as much sense as any other horror movie. To me, it made more sense than the original. It delved a little more deeply into WHY the "Semetary" existed in the first place. It explained WHY the founding families all chose to stay in that cursed town. I'm one who will pick a movie apart just LOOKING for plot holes - it's a hobby of mine. Sitting here thinking, I cannot come up with a single one... well, maybe ONE... I have NO CLUE where Natalie's character (Norma) was or how she got loose. Other than that..
If you HAVE to give your money to a man (Stephen King) who has said that he doesn't want half of the Nation's money, you could do worse than this film. If you can watch it "at a friend's house" for free, so much the better.
