This is the sort of movie where you really need to be relaxed and feel that you have nothing else you need to be doing. My husband, son, and I went to view this film at a local indie theater. It was their last showing of the year. I knew the film was long but was so curious about such a unique concept that I bought tickets for all three of us despite the busy-ness of the holiday season. I ended up feeling like the film could have been finished 30 minutes sooner. With that being said, there were some laughs, some unexpected moments, and some zaniness in a truly creative and impressive way. While I wouldn't just recommend this movie to anyone (would rather tell them what they need to know to make their own decision), the truth is that I am still thinking about this film.
You should only watch it if you appreciate film as art and appreciate creativity. Definitely not for the average person who only likes the Hollywood type of film.

I am going to echo what some others have said. The first half of this movie is brilliant. It lost me about halfway through, though. I wish so much that the writers would have chosen a different path. Heretic could have been one of the most genius movies ever written if their villain would have been a different sort and had different motivations. While hard to choose a number for this movie, I think I'm feeling 6 1/2. Great acting. Great cinematography. And, like I said, brilliant script in the first half. A thought-provoking film until it isn't. Also, the ending is more ambiguous than I would like it to be. If the whole movie were like the first half, this would be a solid 9. But alas.
It may seem strange to give a lower-budget movie a 10, but I literally found no flaws with this film. Acting was good, script was excellent. Cinematography was great. Scene direction: spot on. Interesting story that was not predictable, too. I am astonished that this movie does not have a higher score. I also agree with some others who claim there should also be a horror tag on this one. Oh, one more thing: length of film was perfect. Exactly what was necessary and not a minute more. My compliments to everyone involved with this production. I would highly recommend watching this film as a pleasant diversion or as someone interested in directing. Seriously.
