I really liked this documentary at first, but as it went on I became very aware of who these people were and what their main interests were, and I truly don't think it's shark conservation. Like others have mentioned in their reviews this seems more like an elongated Instagram post than it does a documentary. I really didn't like the fact that we got SO LITTLE time with the actual scientists, and they were made out to be the big bad guys out to get Ocean. I think it misrepresents their intentions and makes this "documentary" come off as very biased. I would have loved to have learned something from watching this, but the only thing I've come away from this documentary with is you really probably shouldn't go petting 20 foot long great white sharks in your bikini. It's a pretty bad look overall.
I went into this movie blind. Never heard of this until recently when I saw it on my Flixtor home page. It's a solid but flawed thriller. The story is the strongest aspect of this film, harrowing and gritty, particularly the action sequences. The sets/landscapes and the ominous, chilling atmosphere really enhances a lot to the depth of the film. But it's hindered by some clunky, over-dramatic dialogue and slightly corny character development. There were several times I got a good chuckle from some of the lines and their delivery. All that said I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a decent thriller. It's very well made, but could have used a bit more polishing on the characters and script.
This is another one that I've put off watching for years. I could tell from the movie posters and trailers I had seen that the style they were going for wasn't quite fitting for the story and I was absolutely correct in that assumption. The neon, retro, synthy style they were going for works for awhile, but it eventually gets old and becomes annoying and overly apparent that this movie is style over substance. The plots good, characters are good, but it's execution is lackluster. They tried way too hard to make this some kind of ultra cool, arthouse crime thriller, but it just didn't work for me. The first hour or so was great, but after that hour mark things become complicated and just completely unrealistic. Like is this p.o.s. Really going to go through all of this trouble to break out his brother whom he probably really doesn't even care that much about?? I don't think so. It's a bit much and it just isn't realistic at all. I can't really recommend this.
