Terrifier 3 (2024)
You're missing the point--this is meant to break the rules!
If you went in expecting to see a typical slasher horror movie, you were most likely disappointed. This is not your typical slasher horror film....not even close...it's much more gory, disgusting, morbid, violent, and down right TERRIFYING...and that's the whole point.
The director/writer broke all the rules of horror for each of these films. It has elements of the genre that are then ripped into shreds like a victim of Art of the Clown. He broke all the rules in first one, broke all the rules and some in the second, and then broke all of his own rules in the third. He is pushing these films to the limit, and those of us who understand what he is doing, LOVE IT!
I get that people may not see this as horror, but rather a grotesque monstrosity. But to us fans, the horror is real. The body horror, the slashing, the Gothic undertone, the scary camera angles, all the makings of a varsity horror movie in one big orgy.
I have never been a slasher fan. I think slasher movies are boring and always have the same formula (aside from Saw). Terrifier 1-3 took that formula and made a new concoction.
Looking forward to the 4th!
House of the Dragon: Smallfolk (2024)
The episode was outstanding. The bad reviews are ridiculous!
I am a HUGE fan of ASOIF, both the books and the shows (well, GoT season 1-4). People are saying this episode is just filler, but I 100% disagree. HoD and GoT have this uncanny ability to portray patience. It takes it time, and slowly builds up, with meaningful scenes in-between that prepare us for new archs.
If the show was nothing but violence and gore, these reviewers would complain that it focuses too much on fighting or dragon flying.
Once you realize that the show is very patient, you can tell there is going to be a big pay off. This episode was phenomenal and next week is going to be even better!
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Sometimes you watch a show that changes your brain chemistry...
Sometimes you watch a show that changes your brain chemistry...this is one of those shows.
For me it's:
-The Sopranos
Breaking Bad
-Black Sails
-Game of Thrones
-Attack on Titan
-The Borgias
And now Interview with the Vampire!
This show has left me speechless. There is something so alluring about Anne Rice's vampires... something so attractive. I find myself wishing I was a Vampire. Sounds great, right? Living for hundreds of years and being stronger and faster than ordinary humans.
Yes, there are major differences between the show and the book, but I find the changes brilliant and fresh. This show is now on my list...I am VERY picky. Give it a go!
One Piece (2023)
The Curse is Broken
One Piece under promised and over delivered.
We were skeptical because most adaptations are garbage...like Death Note...and the curse has lived on for many years.
One Piece broke that curse! And here is why:
The writers did exactly what they needed to do--stick with the source material. Of course there are some slight changes, but they are strategically placed and not overdone.
The camera and editing is top notch, I sometimes feel like I am watching the Anime, and then the beautiful sets and camera work bring it back to Earth.
The acting is PHENOMENAL! Not one bad actor. Luffy and Zoro were perfectly casted.
You won't regret watching this masterpiece.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Let's all take a nice breath of relief
Well that is a major weight lifted off my shoulders. Those who stick with GRRM's material, succeed. They pulled it off! This show does not feel forced, and sold out. It is authentic and feels like we are truly in Westeros. The Westeros we only knew as a whisper of history. The casting is excellent. The music is GOT. Great job HBO. Bravo!
The Spanish Princess (2019)
It's enjoyable in small doses...kind of..
I enjoyed the first season...kind of. I love the Tudor era of England, and especially Henry III, but I couldn't bare the side story of the Nigerians. They had no place at the king's court. In my opinion, it ruined the show and made it feel superficial.
Gwang-hae, wang-i doin nam-ja (2012)
I haven't laughed so hard or cried as much in a long time!
I loved the Crowned Clown, so when I found this...oh to see Enuch Joe again and the guy from Squid Game, I was pumped. One of my favorite movies! I recommend this movie to everyone and anyone!
Wang-i doin nam-ja (2019)
The Korean Prince and the Pauper
I happen to love this show. It has the perfect mix of comedy, drama, and action. Brilliantly written, directed, and acted.
It is like a Korean "The Prince and the Pauper" only darker!
If you enjoy international period pieces, then I believe you will enjoy this!
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Not Sopranoesque enough
Did you like the trailer? Well, the movie is nothing like it. It is bloated, dull, and slow. It is not Sopranoesque, nor is it a good gangster movie.
I wanted to punch Silvio in the head...you'll see why.
Way too much racial tension, way too much Dickie and his goomah, not enough Tony.
Michael Gandolfini was excellent and lit up the screen. Also, Vera Farmiga was excellent. But the writer did not do them justice.
Rewatch The Sopranos if you need some in your life.
This is just another letdown in the world of Hollywood spinoffs.
Outlander (2014)
Bravo Tobias! Bravo Outlander!
Tobias Menzies is one of the most underrated actors in television history. His character is so terrible; I get sick when I see his face. For an actor to achieve this, one must embody the very essence of the character. The entire cast does precisely that: they represent the characters with brilliance, and for an hour, I am in Scotland or France. Bravo. Bravo. One of the greatest shows of all time.
Miracle Workers (2019)
The first season was excellent
The first season was excellent, unfortunately, the second season did not follow the same formula.
I was looking forward to seeing God and his minions again, but instead we got a poop-shoveler.
I love Buschemi and Radcliffe, so I will continue to watch. But dam...
DragonHeart (1996)
I usually don't bother with anything under 7/10
I give this film a 10/10 for a few reasons.
1. The Visual Effects -- stunning
2. The Cast -- top of the line
3. The Plot -- touching and clever
4. The Writing -- superb
5. The Directing -- top-notch
6. The Acting -- well...you know...
The movie is beautiful in so many ways. If you want a "feel good" movie that will leave you laughing and tearing, check it out. It should be rated much higher. It's a shame...too many tasteless snobs!
Your Worst Nightmare (2014)
One of the best investigation shows
It blew me away. My wife loves watching murder shows at night while I read, but I couldn't get past a page with this show on. It is excellent. The acting and the directing is perfect.
The Prince (2021)
The Tarts
The tart scene was funny. That's all...
Everything else is in bad taste and not funny. CHILDREN? REALLY?!?! Disgusting lazy writing.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Loved it!
I am a fantasy nut. Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Witcher, etc. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. The acting is excellent. The story is fun. The writing is decent. The effects are great. All in all, I loved it.
I didn't read the books (yet..), so I am judging based solely on the show. It is now one of my favorites. I will be reading the books soon.
Loki (2021)
Gave Loki a 10/10 -- here is why
I am not a huge Marvel fan -- yeah I know, I am weird -- but I am in love with the fantasy and science fiction genre. As an outsider of the universe, I say "Loki" is a top-notch science fiction and fantasy show.
It is superb.
I understand how important it is to fans for the show to stay in line with the source material, but as a standalone show, it is phenomenal.
Domina (2021)
Eh....
Augustus: one of the greatest leaders of all time....played by some creepy dude. This show is an insult to ancient Rome.
But it's Ok...ish...
Passes the time (if that's your thing)
Sweet Tooth (2021)
Exceeded all of My Expectations!!
I was not expecting much when I hit play. Just wanted to pass the time, but within the first 15 minutes, I was hooked.
This is going to be one of Netflix's best shows. Perhaps the best show of 2021 thus far.
Great and unusual concept. Great writing and great acting.
Worth the watch!
The OA (2016)
Don't miss out on this show! It is one-of-a-kind #SaveTheOA
This is one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. Every second is a ride. It does something magical to your brain--the creativity and intelligence radiates from the screen--it leaves you feeling stimulated, and questioning your own reality. If you are a deep thinker, this show will feed your mind!
The acting and writing is some of the best in the last decade. How did this not win any major awards? I guess they are too busy giving awards to corny mainstream shows. The OA is life-changing.
My new favorite show.
Stranger Things (2016)
Seasons 1 & 2 were art! Season 3 is a parody.
Seasons 1 and 2 were binge-worthy...they were art. The characters grow on you, the humor was dry and well placed, the sci-fi was classic and original, the cinematography was top-notch, and the writing was flawless...it was an excellent show.
Season 3 is a parody of the first two seasons. The characters have lost their personalities, the humor is corny, the sci-fi is nonexistent, and the writing is lazy.
I understand that after a long period people change, but the essence of who they were is gone. It's just plain disappointing.
I gave this a 10/10 for the first two seasons. They are worth your time!
The Phenomenon (2020)
Two documentaries provide solid evidence: this is one
"The Phenomenon" and "Capturing the Light" provide us with solid evidence that visitors from the cosmos are interested in interacting with humans.
If you are sick of military interviews (which I find quite compelling), fast forward to the end. The children in Zimbabwe did indeed see little men outside a UFO. Suspend judgement, and watch!
100s of eyewitnesses=EVIDENCE!
The Good Doctor: Dr. Ted (2021)
The writers made a huge mistake!
SPOILER ALERT:
If you have not watched the episode, stop reading now!
If you did see it, you know what I am talking about: the writers made a big mistake. This was the opportunity to insert a Dr. Murphy-magical-good-doctor moment that we are craving! We haven't had a magical moment all season long.
Perhaps the wonderful actress playing Lea is leaving next season? That is the only sense I can make from this poor decision. Don't get me wrong, this far the writers have been outstanding--but I believe this was a huge mistake!
Castle Freak (1995)
A 70's horror made in the 90's
"Castle Freak" is a great horror movie. The people who gave it a low rating are probably fans of new-wave horror.
This isn't some big-budget Hollywood "horror" flick with superstar actors and crazy special effects. Nevertheless, it is well-directed, and the story is scary. The '90s aren't known for good horrors, but "Castle Freak" happens to be an exception to the rule.
If you are like me and love the old horror flicks, then you will enjoy one.
Chasing Ocean Giants (2020)
Excellent nature show!
I will keep it simple:
I binged it in a day. It is very captivating and very informative. If you enjoy nature shows, you will definitely enjoy this!
Raised by Wolves (2020)
Starts real strong! The end sucks..
10/10 for the first six episodes. 6/10 for the three after, and a 3/10 for the ending. It could have been a truly GREAT show, but the writers went somewhere else. The premise is brilliant--androids raising post-apocalyptic human children on a planet far away.
The writers took someone beautifully profound (but simple) and turned it into chaotic complexity.
It is still worth a watch.
-Ragnar Lothbrok.
