The Abyss (1989) is a science fiction movie written and directed by James Cameron and it follows an undersea mobile oil-rig crew who are called on to assist in the recovery of a lost nuclear submarine, but who find unexpected mysteries and perils in the mission. This is the James Cameron movie that no one seems to talk about which is shocking because this movie is freaking awesome.
Positives for The Abyss (1989): This is a good old fashioned underwater exploring movie with characters recover something, but they find something that is beyond their understanding. You have a great cast with the underwater crew and great performances particularly from Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michael Biehn. The special effects for the mysterious creature that our characters find are fantastic and they still hold up to this day. I love that we spend so much time with the crew on their mission and you care about them as people. The movie is a slow burn with the story and it take it's time with the build up the big reveal of this mysterious creature and other things. And finally, the ending with the big reveal being an alien ship underwater and seeing our characters hug each other is perfect.
Overall, The Abyss (1989) is a fantastic science fiction adventure movie from James Cameron that need to be appreciated more nowadays and it was a experience that I will remember for long time.

Rambo III (1988) is the third entry in the Rambo franchise and it follows John Rambo as he goea to Afghanistan to rescue his mentor, Colonel Samuel R. Trautman, from Soviet captivity. I just got done watching this movie and it is easily the weakest of the three Rambo movies from the 1980s while still being very entertaining.
Positives for Rambo III (1988): It was great to see Rambo go to Afghanistan to save Trautman from the Soviets and messes them up. The acting from Sylvester Stallone as John J. Rambo and Richard Crenna as Colonel Samuel R. Trautman are still great. I really enjoyed Rambo interacting with the new set of characters helping him with his rescue mission. The action sequences are still awesome and the most large scaled of the franchise which makes sense given this movie was the most expensive movie ever made back in 1988 and it shows with the insane amount of explosions, gunfire and horses being used. You still get the 80s cheese that I love about movies made in the 80s. The movie is paced very well with the story as well as with the insane action on screen. And finally, this movie was a great place to end the original Rambo trilogy and let it rest for two decades.
Negatives for Rambo III (1988): The movie is missing the dynamic between Rambo and Trautman for a large majority of the movie. I also felt that the movie was a bit long for the story.
Overall, Rambo III (1988) is another fantastic entry in the Rambo franchise as well as a great ending to the trilogy and franchise before we eventually got Rambo (2008) two decades later.

Troll 2 (2025) is the sequel to Troll (2022) on Netflix and it follows Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris as they leap back into action when a new troll awakes from the mountain and they'll need more help to take it down. I found Troll (2022) to be one of the better modern day monster movies and the sequel continues that trend as this movie was just as good if not better than the first movie.
Positives for Troll 2 (2025): First off, it was great to see these characters back on another mission to stop another giant troll from destroying the city. I liked how we get to see more lore of these giant trolls from Norway and what they're like in this world. The acting from the cast is still good even if I was watching this movie with the English dub and subtitles. The special effects for the giant trolls are still fantastic. The movie has good pacing as we get enough time spent with the human characters to care about them as well as the action scenes. The troll vs troll battle was a lot of fun especially with the ending of that battle. And finally, I love the ending with the humans accepting the trolls as fellow living creatures, while setting up a third movie with the post credit scene.
Overall, Troll 2 (2025) is an excellent follow-up to one of the better modern monster movies as well as one of the better movies on Netflix and I can't wait for the third movie to come out.
