  • The Coen Brothers and Sam Raimi are back.

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) is a screwball comedy movie co-written by the Coen Brothers and Sam Raimi and it tells the story of this guy running as the president of a manufacturing company where things get crazy and the movie was pretty good.

Positives for The Hudsucker Proxy (1994): The plot of this movie is interesting enough for me to follow and it leads to some good moments. The cast does an amazing job here with Tim Robbins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Paul Newman, Jim True and Bill Cobbs. The comedy is on point as is the case with the Coen Brothers and you have bits of Sam Raimi sprinkled during these moments. I like how insane everyone is and they are so fun to watch. I also like how the plot manages to get crazier with every passing minutes and it never lets up. And finally, the ending of this movie was ridiculous and I was smiling at how insane it was.

Negatives for The Hudsucker Proxy (1994): There are moments where the comedy isn't nearly as good as the Coen Brothers other movies and the same can be said with Sam Raimi. The movie is a little too long for the story that is being told to us on screen. And finally, the movie isn't nearly as fun or insane as I wanted it to be.

Overall, The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) is the weakest movie from the Coen Brothers so far, but it was still a great movie to watch and I understand why this movie was able to have a cult following.

  • What's in his head

Barton Fink (1991) is a black comedy thriller movie written and directed by the Coen Brothers and it tells the story of New York playwright being hired to write scripts for a film studio in Hollywood and the movie is absolutely phenomenal.

Positives for Barton Fink (1991): Similar to their other movies, the Coen Brothers have crafted a brilliant story with their writing and execute it to perfection with the direction of that story. You have a fantastic cast with John Turturro, John Goodman, Judy Davis, Michael Lerner, John Mahoney and Jon Polito and they are all amazing. John Turturro was one of those guys who I made fun of due to his appearances in the Michael Bay Transformers movies and shame on me because this guy is awesome and he has more range as an actor than I ever watched thought. I also loved the banter he has with John Goodman who is probably the best character in the movie and he brings an energy to the character that is present in all of the Coen Brothers movies. I liked seeing Turturro going through his life in Hollywood and experiencing the dark side of filmmaking that takes a toll on him. The movie has the dark comedy that is present in the Coen Brothers' movies and this is some of the best I've seen from them. There is a bit turn that caught me off completely guard and it took me a while to recover from it. And finally, I love how the movie ends with Turturro or anyone finding out what is inside of the box he found and it is left to the audience to decide what he does with it which leads to a lot of interesting ideas for fans.

Overall, Barton Fink (1991) is another banger from the Coen Brothers and they are rising up the ranks as some of my favorite filmmakers in Hollywood and that will only continue as I keep going on my journey watching the movies in their filmography.

  • Disney, you actually did it.

Freakier Friday (2025) is the sequel to Freaky Friday (2003), a movie that is really insane and entertaining to watch. Now to be fair, I was a little worried if the filmmakers were going to be able to make a good sequel to that movie because Disney has had a rough couple of years, but I'm happy to say that this movie was good.

Positives for Freakier Friday (2025): Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis kill it in this movie and they recapture the magic and charm of their performances from the 2003 movie while also being in different places in life. It feels like they never left these roles and they set down into these characters like the 2003 movie came out last year. I did like some of the new characters particularly Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons as the two stepdaughters of Lindsay Lohan's character. You do get some nice callbacks of the 2003 movies and they didn't feel like cheap fan service. The plot of the movie is different enough from the original to help it stand out instead of feeling like a cheap copy of what happened 22 years ago with the characters. And finally, the insanity of the premise is still intact with everything that happens in this movie and that make me very happy.

Mixed for Freakier Friday (2025): There is still a nature to the story not making any logical sense as to what is going on, but I don't care because I was having fun with it.

Negatives for Freakier Friday (2025): The movie does feel it is overstuffed with subplots and characters who feel like they shouldn't even be here and they did drag the movie a a lot for me. Honestly, I did forget some of the subplots as they felt so random and pointless that if you took them out of the story, you would still have the same movie. And finally, there is one scene that literally exists for product placement and it was so hilariously dumb that this scene actually made it into the final product.

Overall, Freakier Friday (2025) is a good continuation of the 2003 movie and it was fun to see these characters getting back to the insanity of the story from 22 years ago and I am happy to say that.
