I was really looking forward to a good biopic when I heard that the film was based on Captain Gopinath and how he founded and later made Deccan Airlines successful. What we get to see in the first half of the film is a love story, accompanied with strange dances by the leads, unrealistic acting (real people doesn't act like that, maybe no one told surya).
Makes me wonder if the makers were actually trying to make a over the top film or a biopic.

I was all looking forwarding to watching a brilliant mystery thriller after hearing about all the accolades and imdb rating. Alas, I know now that these can't be trusted. Out of the 2 and half hour something movie, atleast one hour can be said to be watchable and interesting, especially the main actor's initial story and the antagonist's method of killing and his backstory, these are told well. Otherwise, the plot just crumbles.
Like most tamil suspense movies the focus seems to be more on sensation than on plot. Most of the other actors (the heroine's character, doctor's character played by N Ravi and many more) it seems are there just to make the film 2 hours and more. They hardly contribute to the plot.
Like in such movies nowadays, through coincidence or by accident the clues are found one after another, plot gets unravelled and the murderer is apprehended rather than the hero or the police actually racking their brains and investigating.
Watch only if you have nothing else to do. Otherwise rewatch any of the popular Hollywood serial killer movies.

I went to watch the movie on the big screen expecting a decent underwater monster thriller movie. But was kind of disappointed, the movie had only a couple of scares, few claustrophobic sequences and didn't have the atmospheric thrills that one would associate with such films. The monsters were strange looking and couple of them are shown so gigantic that you wonder how they never surfaced and went undetected on earth so far. The ending is also a letdown.
What works is Kirsten Stewart as the lead protagonist. She is excellent and Vincent Cassel supports in a brief role. There are few scary scenes and most of the underwater sequences are filmed very well.
So, this is just another monster movie but without many thrills. Give it a miss.
