At first, I thought the production, dialogue and settings were paying homage to the late 1970s and early 80s due to their retro feel and stylistic choices. However, as the show progressed, it reminded me more of the early Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes. However, there is no reverence; the production is cheaply made for TV entertainment, and the acting and staging are amateurish. It's so sad; Red Sonja deserves a good, well-produced follow-up after so many decades, but this is not it. Even actors I have seen in better films seemed to be acting poorly.
Very well acted from a cast I was not familiar with. The film boasts a good story and production, which kept me engaged throughout. Despite its relatively short hour-and-a-half duration, it seemed longer to me. I jumped forward a few times and don't believe I missed anything of importance. After half an hour, I thought at least an hour had passed. It would have been a better film if it were an hour duration, but I don't expect viewers at a cinema would appreciate that (even if it made it better)-more drama than horror.
