I am not sure why this was green-lighted. As a great fan of the original television series, I have, over the past 45 years, probably seen it four or five times, also read the book three times, and listened to the audiobook twice (narrated by Jeremy Irons). What draws me close to this literary classic is the excellent writing, beautiful prose, and the voice and delivery of Jeremy Irons. For instance, the TV series beautifully captured the intricate relationships between the characters, and the book's descriptive prose brought the setting to life. In my opinion, the TV got it just right with some 13 hours of what is still one of the best adaptations ever put to celluloid. This film pales in comparison in every way. Not a bad movie, well-acted and filmed, but it is a shadow of both the book and TV series. I feel the cinema misses the point, and if this were the only means that viewers were introduced to this story, it would be a shame.
M3gen doesn't appear for nearly an hour, then she spends a considerable amount of time in other people's heads. Just dialogue. Also, this is too long and has turned into a comedy science fiction film. Not a bad movie, with lots of action, but what made the original so good was M3gen, the Annabelle-esque creepy doll. As an action film, it is a lot of fun, but if you are going into this to see our favourite doll, you will be disappointed.

I think 10 minutes removed from the run time would have been a good idea. You would have a fun family film if the gore aspect were removed. As I watched, that thought crossed my mind. It is a breezy, fun action ride, but I found the end very schmaltzy, much like an old Disney film. I'm not sure if it may have started that way, and then someone decided to add some violence, and it became adult. If you took Dumbo, and added gore and dark humour you get the idea? The film was fun, I would wait for streaming.
