Firstly, you should know, I DON'T like these kind of movies. I like action movies and this is not an action movie. Also I like sci-fi and this is not sci-fi. What it is, is a surprisingly good representation of the kind of mixed up lives that many "normal" families end up living these days. Sadie displays many characteristics typical of any 13 year old kid that you know, along with the messy family structure, and events, that are common to many. The directing is clever and avoids overstating many of the small steps that are instead left as implied, and eventually build up to an unfortunate (although somewhat predicable) finale.
So many plot flaws that it hurts to watch this. Many people have mentioned the great fight scenes but I'm sorry, Godzilla is completely unconvincing - he's dead, alive, thermo-nuclear, dead again, alive again and finally awakes with some new mortal-kombat style special moves to kill (or apparently not kill) the bad guy. Even worse, is the family drama in this monster-action movie; noting that the presence of monsters doesn't seem to have any impact on the family drama that's occurring oblivious to the thundering giants above them. Also makes a mockery of every military operation; where were your military advisers when you filmed this? Horribly flawed in so many ways.
