I was quite on the edge on watching this. Last few releases from Denis were great visually but always felt short of substance to emotion and conclusion. It was a quite a heartbreak with Blade Runner 2049, because so much of the nostalgia of the original was lost. But Dune takes Denis in the right direction with great promise. Visually it is stunning, I was just amazed by it. And the story direction was done really really well. And the casting has been spot on. I am hoping the second installment brings more of it with some epic conclusion and hopefully Denis don't make it rely fully on visual and sound score. Waiting for the second one eagerly !
Nolan does it again, and this has been the theme with him since inception and interstellar days. The movie is stunning visually in term of photography and cinematography which Nolan is a master at. But when it comes to story telling, I lost him again at so many points in the movie. I am not sure what's the drive to tell a story this way, where you need to jump between chapters and timelines to stitch the narrative of the story together, and then leave it up to the audience to piece it. It can be great if done well, but not in this case. Again too many situations were complicated way more than needed, like Nolan did in Inception and Interstellar in the past. The performance from all the actors was truly amazing and thats the only thing that kept me in my seat for 3 hours. Honestly an hour of the movie could have been edited out.
The movie is good. But I am tired of seeing rosamund playing similar role over again. It was great to see Peter back on screen and as expected stellar performance. But rosamund...meh, again the same type of role she played in her previous hit.
