Typical "boy who cried wolf" story. A girl fakes her kidnapping but then really ends up getting kidnapped and everyone's skeptical about it. It's got Christopher Walken, it's got a few 90's adult contemporary songs that you forgot all about, and other than that, there's really not much else going for it. There are a few spots where the soundtrack does not match the accompanying scene, for example the song "Crash" by Dave Matthews Band plays while Silverstone scarfs down a Twinkie. Maybe that was intentionally awkward or perhaps an attempt at humor. I honestly couldn't tell. Almost felt like an inside joke among the producers. Benicio's character was dull, boring, and way too soft for a criminal. Alicia's character was very unlikable and impossible to relate with. The film lacked atmosphere and the whole thing felt unconvincing. I suppose comedies don't have to feel realistic but was it a comedy? If so, they forgot the jokes. Halfway through I got that feeling where you can't wait for it to just end but you almost care about what happens just enough to suck it up and fight through it because you have nothing else to do. The film ends with the extremely predictable cliche Hollywood ending that you can expect from any romantic comedy. If you like romantic comedy, there are one or two mushy scenes but falls flat from any more than that. If you like action, there is one or two explosions and a guy who flies out a window but other than that, falls flat in that area too. No matter what you're into, this will not deliver. There is hardly anything redeeming about this film. Avoid it.
