As two young girls offer hospitality to a tiny traveling family, they recognize the importance of everyone in spite of size. The antagonist in the story learns a lesson. It is an excellent film for showing children how to appreciate others, despite their difference. Great film!!!! I wish I could get it and the other two on DVD.
The acting in this film was amazing. While there were a few swears in the American voice overs, I think it is still wonderful. Carice van Houten's portrayal of a cat turned human is great. Her movements as she comes out from under the table and her eye and head motions are absolutely feline. Great film for the family!
While the American voiceovers use swear words, I am not sure how the original script read. Based on the book by Annie M. G. Schmidt, this film was a treat. I have to buy the book now. As with many Dutch family films, the characters are delightful. Someone must have read Schmidt's book, written in the 1950's, to get the idea for Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. I really wish that the distributors would have left the title for this film as The Great Wiplala. Maybe then, there would not be so many negative comparisons. This was wonderful to watch. I want to find the song from this film about birds of a feather, it was great.
