  • 2025 - Jumping The Shark

Season starting in Jan 2025 is just plain dumb. Over-the-top (that's code for "really strange") contestants were apparently chosen just for the shock-value. But, in this day-and-age, it's all just old and passe. We're no longer enthralled by cross-dressers, other guys with bleached spiked hair and eye makeup, dumb girls, and frequent references to "the ginger" guy. Jeff Morrow is being compelled to being sillier than usual, and Antonia Lofaso acts like she's embarrassed to be there and like maybe she lost a bet to some big-wig at Food Network. OR perhaps Ann Burrell WON a bet and was mercifully given a reprieve this season, lest her career be damaged. And, the stupid inter-cooking game antics are...wait.... I'm running out of words that mean "stupid" and "dumb". The first time doing a review where I have to use the thesaurus for those words. OK, here: the stupid game antics employed between cooking segments are foolish, ludicrous, and asinine. Taking this season off our DVR schedule. Can't believe Food Network actually airs this trash.

I will say, that post-production editing/splicing/whatever else they do to cobble together the sequences, is excellent.

  • Clever, Hilarious, NO LAUGH TRACK

This show is so good, so well-written, it's almost distracting. Richly developed and brilliantly acted characters. This is one of the "smartest" comedic shows we've ever seen, and it does not rely on middle-school inuendo. Seriously, you've never seen a sitcom like this one, it's so original. Bonus: no laugh track. It absolutely does not need one. You will provide your own laugh track. My wife and I watch this and keep saying "how do the writers come up with this stuff?" as we're holding our stomachs laughing. CBS has a gold mine on this one. Any show that's aired before or after Ghosts, is almost guaranteed to be a hit, too.

  • Acting Lessons, Anyone?

We were looking for a happy, sappy Christmas movie as an escape from our maniacal daily lives. Tails of Christmas had so much promise. A great storyline, a production under the Great American Family banner, wonderful cinematography/stage-direction, well-done background music, good-looking actors, DOGS! What could possibly go wrong?

The acting. That's what went wrong. We've seen better acting in middle-school plays. We didn't make it past the 30-minute mark, it was so cringe-worthy. A shame, really, because we've seen some really well-done GAF Christmas movies this 2024 season. GAF made the mistake of deploying nearly an entire pretty-faced rookie cast on Tails of Christmas that otherwise would've been great with some seasoned actors.

Also, if you want to do a movie with "shelter" dogs, you've got to show the dogs in the shelter barking/going crazy, not sitting there like perfect angels. There are ways to direct around that type of realistic chaos.
