Another reason to miss Tony Scott.
This movie -- is a conservative 9 Stars*********
And another win for Denzel Washington. Have I ever seen a Denzel movie that was not at least pretty darn good?
The first thought was that I have seen these incidents portrayed before. And they are intended to be emotional but this one really rang hard for me. And I can't tell you when I felt that way without spoilers.
This is about as fast paced as anything I have seen.
The storyline or basic plot elements we have encountered eslewhere but it was a good plot. Credit the Muses...
The screen play must have been a series of all nighters -- that and the story-boarding must have been arduous.
Then there is the editing which goes by at such a pace that I could see no fumbles.
This IS a thriller.
I'll skip the politics except to say that it is addressed in the script.
Oh yes -- there is a terrific cast and most of you will recognize many faces.
This might be one I have to own on disk!

If you like Atomic Blond... or Inside Man...
This is a Nine by complicated evaluation.
Cinematically, as viewed, ~ 6.
Direction and Editing, ~ 6.5.
Soundtrack, a solid 7, mostly for the first music you hear.
The Writing (of Great Characters), ~ 9
Casting and Character Portrayals, ~ 9.
Bonus for emotional impact and low budget ~3...
How did I miss this? It makes you wonder if Studio Executives actually know their business...
I search the IMDB for all kinds of actor's movies and go hunting to find them and watch what I managed to miss -- I found this by going through the Credits for Jodie Foster on IMDB.
Most of the time the stuff I missed gets peeked at for maybe several tens of minutes, if that, before I skip it.
Really good movies -- and I watch the credits! -- or buy a copy. I have hundreds.
Very Mad-Max-ian in a way that is not 'campy' or B-title like we used to see at the drive-in... So you might well consider buying a hard copy of this.
This will be a cult classic after I am gone...

You will want the details but the first time you watch it you should just let it run.
I am sure that there was much elbowing and stomping of insteps to get into this cast.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is easier to approach because we all, or many of us are, intuitively get where the humor is rooted.
Not so, here. Satelite City is smack dab center-punching America and so one can just sit a smile.
The French Dispatch needs a second viewing so as to be inside the joke(s).
Any of Wes Andersons films is a commentary only slightly removed from the human condition so depending on a given viewer's personal context more or less immersion and repetitions might be wanted.
Personally The Grand Budapest Hotel is my favorite (more than 5 viewings) but this is a close second.
