  • Beautiful cinematography and attractive actors.

Incredible cinematography and very attractive lead actors.

That's about the kindest thing I can say about this film. Amazon didn't really promote this flick and I guess I know why.

I'm trying to be nicer with Tyler Perry movies because when he's in top form, which seems to be 20 years ago, he really does deliver good "comfort food" films. But I keep waiting for his next "why did I get married," "Diary of a Mad Black woman," or even "the family that preys" and he is just NOT delivering. It seems that the bigger the budgets, the WORSE the actual content.

TP really seems to be regressing both with the storytelling as well as the embarrassingly poor scripts and non-existent character development.

"Finding Joy" was best for Hallmark or Lifetime. In fact, you can find much better films on either of those channels these days.

The storyline had so many holes that it was embarrassing to watch. A little common sense goes a long way with keeping the audience engaged. This film had NONE. The sidekicks that were apparently brought in for comedic relief weren't funny at all. And as a Black viewer, I'm really tired of him pretending that Black people have never been anywhere! Does he not remember that "why did I get married?" was about four black couples on a vacation in Colorado?? It's like Tyler Perry listens for what people are talking about on social media and throws together a script to try to make it relevant! That is NOT good writing.

There was so much in this one that is offensive to basic logic that I don't even need to post spoilers. I will say that the love story itself did not pull a single heart string for me. It was too contrived and choppy.

  • The ANSWER Is An Open Book!

Allen Iverson's documentary accompanies the release of his new autobiography, "Misunderstood." I definitely plan to grab a copy ASAP!

This was an EXCELLENT documentary that is well made and leaves no stone unturned. Secondary producers included Shaq, Steph Curry AND Ryan Coogler.

I watched all three segments back to back because the storytelling drew me in and would not let me go.

If I had to sum up his life in one word, it would be A LOT! He is a man of faith and that's a good thing because it was clear to me that ONLY God has brought him this far in his right mind and good health considering EVERYTHING he has endured.

Iverson has always been a dynamic and complex figure in pro sports. Most of us have heard third and fourth hand versions of his storied history, but I was very grateful to hear THE FACTS straight from him and his family.

Unbelievably talented, loved by women, and at times, self-destructive, Iverson is one of the GOAT's with vulnerability and heart. On the court, he was very confident and even cocky. But off the court, there is a reason that pro-athletes and the public alike embrace this man. He is remarkably humble and self aware at this stage of his life in particular.

Has he made mistakes? YES, just like the rest of us! Has he learned from them? It certainly appears that he has.

Unlike Michael Jordan's The Last Dance, this is very gritty and very raw. It's also a lot more transparent about Iverson's personal life off the court. Understandably so, as Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson come from very different backgrounds and lifestyles. But there's no doubt that both of these basketball legends were surrounded by people who loved them and continually pushed them forward in spite of the personal and professional odds against them. That said, Iverson had an overwhelming financial responsibility for his entire family. His doting and loyal mother along with a host of aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, childhood friends - EVERYBODY. At times, it made me wonder just how much he was able to live his own life without the economic responsibility for so many people. As many know, he went through a period of financial struggles. Even though I'm not sure he has the full insight as to WHY, it's definitely very clear in the documentary.

Regardless, he does make it clear that he wanted to give his family EVERYTHING possible because of his traumatic, poverty stricken childhood.

As I watched the third episode draw to a close, My hope is that Iverson is able to remain sober and keep his family together. When he comes into additional fortune in the next few years, I do hope that he will be able to keep the hangers-on at bay and not waste his wealth again. TRUE friends AND relatives take care of themselves financially. They don't ask for money from you, and they don't take it if you offer it because they have the pride to take care of themselves.

Well made and best 3 hours in a long time on Amazon Prime.

  • The ECU Delta Sigma Theta hazing episode

I had never heard about this incident so this episode was definitely eye opening but NOT surprising. There were so many points when this tragedy could have been avoided. The things that the sorority did AFTER the deaths were beyond DESPICABLE. Claiming the victim was 2 hours from going over was NEXT LEVEL IGNORANT. Sororities and fraternities have hazed folks since the beginning and they will haze as long as they exist. It always becomes a matter of "I went through it so you have to as well." That's the reason why many independent women and men don't pledge, particularly with black celebrities and fraternities. They also have a sick sixth sense RE people who are needy for belonging. That's the only way you put up with being bullied and denigrated to be a part of something that's supposed to be "honorable." I have to say I had to chuckle at the first half of the episode when they kept trying to build Delta up to be something otherworldly. It's a women's organization like so many others. No better, no worse. The fact that none of the Delta perps based any criminal charges is ridiculous. Just hope and pray that ECU stays on top of them when they return to campus in 2025.
