Superman, both the eponymous movie and the character, lacks rizz due in part to an incredibly stiff performance by David Corenswet that portrays Superman as perpetually exasperated but lacking in easygoing sweetness and charm. The fight scenes don't sell the heroics either as they rely too heavily on a camera that chaotically zips around in lock step with the chaotic movements of the characters to the detriment of any tangible choreography. Not to mention that the movie is visually ugly too: incredibly mediocre CGI special effects, muddy CGI backgrounds, lack of color palette, and flat, overly glossy lighting. The script could have been a bright spot but, aside from Lois's authentic feeling interview with Superman about the ethics and perils of intervening in international affairs (shoutout to Rachel Brosnahan, the one saving grace of this movie), the plotting is all over the place, the themes are simplistic, and nothing is allowed to be genuine for too long before being awkwardly punctuated by a joke (shout out, though, to the banger line: "finally, something liberals and conservatives can agree on: Lex Luthor sucks"). This whole movie feels like it starts at the end of Act II and then vomits plot point after point thereafter until the movie ends. I am tired of Superhero movies that can't just be stories about characters anymore- they always have to encyclopedically appeal to fans and set up a gazillion future films.
