This really could have been an excellent story. But the concept/format allowed it to go to waste. It's as simple as that. Now that there are only 10 episodes per season it seems to me, there isn't time for all these gimmicks. We need good rock solid stories straightforwardly told (which this could easily have been) please.
As usual a little gaggle of "true-believers" incapable of contemplating that Star Trek can and must evolve, develop and change, flood this page with their scribblings. Stop watching and go elsewhere if you think it's bad. I rather like it. Its a series and you don't expect to know exactly what's going on from the start. If you are still stuck on self-contained episodes then you'd probably best stick with the past. Its fascinating for an original Star Trek watcher from the 60s like me to see how far film technology has evolved over the years and to enjoy it.
I am old enough to remember the Vietnam War. I've visited there as well in the 21st century. I've met vets revisiting the country and I've been to the memorial in Washington. This, on so many levels, is an outstanding film. Its a film about oppression, exploitation and suffering. War is hell, morally indefensible and its consequences are passed from generation to generation. The acting is superb and Delroy Lindo's performance is especially mesmerising and disturbing. As well as that, this is such a timely release. I have my own thoughts about the poor reviews you will find here, but they are mine and I won't share them. All I can say is watch this film.
