This movie has been made a millions times. It's tired, overdone and boring. Oh looks a mixed race couple, the black parents don't like their daughters with a white guy...or look the white people think black people are all into rap and are from the hood...but in the end LOVE WINS!! Nonsense. Nothing new here. I didn't even get through 45 mins but how right was I about the ending??!! There you go. Skip this one. You won't miss anything. Jonah Hill and Lauren London have 0 chemistry. They both seem like people who wouldn't even talk in real life, never-mind get married. Jonah should have cast someone else and stayed out of this one. But it still would have been the same exhausted narrative.
It's watchable but why do all movies in Ireland have to make it out to be a magical land full of backwards people and diddly diddly personalities. And of course the mentor busker is a drunk. They put weird emphasis on EYE-UR-LAND and EYE-RISH. Most of the Irish people use American-isms to appeal to the yanks but if you're in Ireland be Irish. It's so frustrating, Irish aren't cartoon characters.
At the start is seems like it's going to be a cool movie about re-connecting with Hawaiian culture and rebuild their relationship with their old and wise grandfather, but it quickly turns into a very cheesy, over acted piece of nonsense. The plot is all over the place, the characters have no meat to them, the dialogue is cringe at times and feels rushed. It's like they tried to make a modern goonies and butchered it. There's just no arc to the story. It's also way too long, it's about 2hrs when I feel like 90mins would have been plenty. The Hawaiian backdrop is beautiful and I do like that we learn some things about Hawaii and it's people.
All in all, it's a harmless film that will appeal to little kids as it's meant to be fun and entertaining. But in general, it was a letdown.
