This movie is about not only the miraculous and creepy relationship, but as well as the marginalization of women in the society. No one in the cast sees the qualities of Clarice Sterling (and she has many - one of them being best of the class). The only person (different from the audience) that acknowledge the qualities of this women and sees her by itself and never less than any other man, is the maniac and psycopath homicide. And by this, you automatically love Hannibal, even if he is a serial killer that eats his victims. He doesn't have preconcepts between men and women, although everyone else in the society has.
This only upgrades the confidence of Clarice along the movie, and she overcomes her mentors' one by one in the investigation. The same "mentors" that judge her for their sex.
This is why we "fell in love" with this 2 characters, because they see the things from another different perspective, although being completely extreme. It makes us think: how can a maniac eat his victims and still thinks that a woman is at the same level as him? How can the thoughts of a maniac/homicide being the most correct on?
Excellent perfomance by the 2. For sure in the top best ones ever.
This movie is successful in showing us how to put these words into action. All of the lines and actions are "in accord" with this code. This is how the Roman Empire was build on.
Excellent performance of the duo, trying to overcome the other in and out the movie, always with these words to count for.
I wouldn't rate this a straight 10, since in my opinion, the trama could be more developed around his vengeance and could have take another way that would be interesting to see. Although that, totally deserved of the Academy Awards, and i would say that could've sincerely won the original score award, with an honourable score from Mr. Hans Zimmer, matching the expectations of an "epoch drama" from the ancient times.
This is America. This is THE movie. This movie represents some of the most important parts in America's history from the 60s to the 80s.
Even the soundtrack is aligned with that theme.
Excellency from Tom Hanks (personally, not a great fan), representing on point a 75 QI man. His facial expression rarely moves, although he plays enumerous sensations and feelings throughout the movie. Joy, Sadness, Commitment, Anxiety (having to rescue Bubba from the war), Lonelyness. Feelings that normally make people have different reactions when feeling those. Amazing!!
