Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021)
Cliche, bad animation, crap theme music, and absolutely worth skipping
I could tell just by the theme song that sounds like the garbage you'd hear walking through a shopping mall that goes in one ear and out the other that this was going to be a total fail and sadly, I was correct.
- This show is full of original Blade Runner content without expanding on anything and adding to the Blade Runner "universe". It re-uses content from the original Blade Runner movie throughout and brings nothing new to the table.
- Animation is reminiscent of Playstation 2 graphics quality.
- The horrible theme. It's no Vangelis and instead is a mindless pop song with a cliche voice and overused dramatic hook that lets you know that someone who didn't understand or care about the dark film noire style of Blade Runner is at the helm. Whomever is responsible for the opening theme song needs to be fired and never be allowed to make creative decisions again.
I am not sure who Black Lotus is made for, but it is most certainly not for anyone is a fan of the original Blade Runner.
Mantera (2012)
Amazing movie, don't listen to the haters!
Actually, my headline is a lie. This movie sucked in every way possible: the special effects, the plot line, the HORRIBLE lifeless wooden acting, the sub par out of sync dubbing .. and just about every other aspect of this movie. But don't believe me, please. Rather, watch it for yourself and come to your own conclusion (that way, I don't have to suffer alone). If you can make it through the entire movie without pausing to take a mental break, stopping the movie entirely, or screaming out in pain, then you are more of a manly man than I.
This movie is unfortunately a rip off of so many others that came before it. The transforming motorcycles: Mospeada/Genesis Climber (or Robotech third gen). The nano suit: Crysis. The leader of the enemies: Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget cartoon fame.
Someday, the people that wrote this movie will find out that the US government is using it to torture "terrorists" (or whatever the US government decides to label their latest and greatest made up enemies) and send them a bill that will finally result in this catastrophe being profitable.
Evil Angel (2009)
Much better than I had anticipated
I decided to watch the movie since I had read that it did so well at some film festivals. Since I'm not a big fan of horror movies, I thought it was going to be the same old routine: bad guy kills people, people make mistakes trying to escape and more people are killed, people decide to rise up and take out the killer or at the very least, vanquish the killer. Luckily, Evil Angel did not follow that same tired cliché and in fact, watching whom I consider one of the main characters and stars of the movie (Carruthers played convincingly by Ving Rhames) take a sword through the torso by a cute little number Carla was a shocking site to behold. It's surprising moments like the aforementioned Carruthers taking it with a sword or the total transformations such as cutesy, honorable super duper best friend Jenny (Marie Westbrook) into a sultry and possessed girl or Carla (Ava Gaudet) magically convert from a suicidal, not so sane person into a beautiful killer that I would wholeheartedly defend in court as too beautiful to be guilty, that make the movie so worthwhile.
While I didn't quite understand the motivation behind the movie introduction, the rest of the movie more than atoned for it's introductory sins.
