This episode proves the thought that Star Trek: SNW is trying way too hard and going in the wrong direction. They seem to be intent on wasting time with mindless romances rather than explain TOS canon. Once again, there are so many missed opportunities to lay the groundwork for the next series.(the original series) and trying to connect to Star Trek:TNG both with technological innovation and future characters back stories. I'm not giving anything away nor providing spoilers, but they seem to be spinning in celestial mud, unable to see a path laid out in front of them versus trying new things just for the sake of trying them. Some portions of the story are very interesting while others make me turn away and work on household chores.
OK, I'm a guy and I can see the blatant sexism in this particular episode. Q never even thought about having Captain Picard be a possible mate. Why is it that Janeway has to be the target of an unwanted sexual advance? It seems the writers we're not only running out of plots and situations and we're narrow minded enough to think this would pass as good science fiction. Sure, it's a funny episode and it involves a character we all like and understand that he just causes trouble in the most awkward fashion. I liked the. Q in the show Picard much better. He seems to have evolved but here, in this episode, is just background noise and a sad attempt at entertainment go away.
It's one thing to add to an existing story or pay homage to a genre, but this episode only proved that laziness is the new writing style. When you have an established story, it's best to stick with it and this show continues ignores canon which is rich with stories. I don't want to give anything away with the plot, but there are way too many similarities between this episode and a certain alien/predator storyline. If you're a first time viewer of Star Trek this would seem like a good episode. But if you're a long time fan of the original series (silly and primitive as it sometimes seems) You will probably be insulted with this episode.
