This movie is earnest in a way that i haven't seen in a superhero film since sam raimi's spider man trilogy. And though i don't love those films as much as everyone else seems to, the sincerity in those films has always been one of my favorite parts of them.
Similarly, the new superman film, helmed by james gunn, wears its heart on its sleeve and gives us something a lot of modern films don't: hope. Compared to the needlessly sarcastic tone of marvel films and the self-serious, bordering on pretentious tone of zach snyder's dc films, this movie successfully tows the line between classic comic book-y campiness and tugging on the heartstrings of its viewers. I especially enjoyed superman's optimism through all of the trials and tribulations he goes through, and the way the film makes sure to take some time away from the spectacle of the action set pieces and showing superman saving the people of metropolis on an individual level.
The film does have its flaws, however. Though i am a fan of his work, one problem that i tend to have with james gunn's films is that they can be tonally inconsistent at times, and that carries over to this film. There are moments where the scene goes from heavy, emotional beats to comedy, and though the film is definitely funny, it can be jarring. The film is also not particularly subtle in its allegories to modern social and political conflicts, and though i personally don't think that subtlety is always a good thing or that being unsubtle is always bad, i can also see how this will probably make (and has already made) the film controversial, especially among conservatives.
Overall, i would highly recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of james gunn, sam raimi's spider man, or anyone who appreciates a classic, zany, comic book-y feel. I also think that the optimistic outlook this film provides is incredibly refreshing and is greatly necessary to provide levity in a time that is so distressing to so many people. I think the movie, while certainly flawed, is fun and full of heart, and i had a super time at the theater.

It's just a youtube channel, i fail to understand how this is deserving of its own imdb page beside the likes of actual films. One of the main reasons imdb is useful is to show how the general public perceives a piece of media, or what is the general consensus as to its quality. In the case of youtube, however, the videos themselves catalogue their own quality, with most having likes and comments publicly available. Not only that, imdb also serves to properly catalogue all information available on a project, but again, this is all very easy to find on the platform of youtube itself. This not-so-short paragraph has now been stretched past the required character limit, i didn't really need to type this out but i just had to share my confusion as to the reasoning behind giving this an imdb page, and the only way to share this on the platform was to stretch it out to the length of a proper review. I'm also aware that it is unlikely that more than one or two people will read this, making my efforts quite meaningless. If i'm being quite honest, i don't even understand myself why i'm writing this. Is there a purpose for this? Is there even a purpose to existence? Why must i exist in a world such as this one? Much of my so called "contributions" are worthless in the grand scheme of things. I will not be remembered. Please, single person reading this, tell me, why must i suffer endlessly, writing pointless tidbits of information on a platform that will most likely no longer exist come 30 more years? I believe i may require psychiatric attention. Thank you.
