I was pleasantly surprised! These movies hold a special place in my heart so it can be hard to watch these newer sequels that introduce a younger cast, especially when the younger cast undermines the abilities of the original. They did a good job with this movie. They introduced new characters without taking away from the 4 horseman. It was not exactly a seamless transition but I did not find myself despising the new characters. The plot was solid with a standard Now You See me twist. The cinematography and the score as usual were fantastic. This was the perfect mix of nostalgia and modern cinema. Definitely recommend for any fans of the original!
James Gunn may very well be able to save the DCEU. Was this movie perfect? No. But it was highly enjoyable. The cinematography was beautiful and the score was near perfect. David Corenswet was a fantastic superman and I loved his character development. This movie doesn't really break from the standard superhero movie formula but it stood out in different ways. I liked how this movie introduced the characters without taking up screen time with an origin story. The filmmakers correctly anticipated that we already know Superman's background. Nicholas Hoult was an amazing Lex Luthor, a perfect mix of madness and brilliance. Overall this movie is very fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.
The title gives it away, it is A Minecraft Movie. I'm not really sure what I was expecting from this movie but it wasn't this. Don't get me wrong, I knew it wasn't going to be a work of art but still! The premise could have been interesting but it wasn't so rushed and stuffed with jokes that didn't land. The characters were set up to have character arcs but they did work to earn them they just sort of happened. It was more like a character line than anything. As someone that grew up playing Minecraft, this was not what we deserved. I can see gen alpha kids loving this movie but it was just not for me apparently.
