Couldn't have asked for a greater setup for Rogue One. This trilogy (Andor S1, S2, & Rogue One) is a perfect compliment to the original trilogy, adding depth to the rebellion, showing the sacrifices made and the relationships built. This show is produced at a level I'd never thought Disney Star Wars can reach.
The directing, editing, and acting are outstanding. While there were some issues earlier with pacing and other details, the last 6 episodes of Andor make up for that plus some.
This episode sets up Rogue One perfectly, which sets up the original trilogy perfectly. If you're trying to introduce a friend to the world of Star Wars, I recommend telling them to start at Andor.

The Mandalorian, while I very much like the show, feels like it's heading in the wrong direction with this episode, and it's starting to concern me.
The story for Mandalorian S3E1 feels like like it got pulled straight out of a video game. Plot points are wrapped nicely by non pivotal action scenes, and Mando hops from planet to planet as if each planet is a video game level. With 38 minutes of run time, there isn't much space for the plot to breathe and it takes a lot out of the world building. It's just a boring formula of plot point -> action -> easily resolve action -> rinse and repeat.
Aside from the plot, there are a lot of elements in this episode that simply are not done well. The "show, not tell" principle is lackluster, where a character always is telling the audience what is going on. The dialogue feels artificial and chemistry between characters feels forced.
However, the music is fantastic as always and adds so much to the atmosphere. The visuals too are also impressive and improving with every season. I am let down a little bit, but also hope the next episodes are more forgiving and deliver a fantastic story for us Star Wars fans. I hope Disney still holds some sort of standard for quality.
