João Semana is a slightly adapted character from "As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor", that was written during late 19th Century by writer - and doctor himself - Júlio Dinis.
The main character , João Semana (Nicolau Breyner) suffered a slight adaptation from the orginal book by the hand of argumentist Francisco Moita Flores.
That adaptation gave more to the character, and in my opinion, helped a lot with the plot and general development of the show.
The other main protagonists, nomelly Father Antonio (João D´Ávila) have also an excellent development.
The show achieved to make a compromise between the turmoil and social heterogeny found on Portugal's late 19th century and the bucholic, slow pace living of Portuguese Countryside.

Sorrentino's "The Young Pope" is a trully cinematic masterpiece.
The complexity of human relations, the ambiguity of the characters, the lights, que songs, the dialogue.
All put together on a sort of "desorganized organization".
We feel ourselves loving and hating, just to love and hate again.
We found ourselves with tears on our faces and laughs on our mouths.
The doors of imagination, the unconfortable "grey area", where nothing is perfect... The way the creators adress the inherent complex of Human Nature is just impossible to put on words.
Jude Law, Diane Keating and Silvio Orlando present us with an acting masterclass. Photography and light management are also perfect.
Trully believe this series will grow in recognition over time, as more people are able to discover it.
My first 10 out of 10 review. Enjoy... And be happy.

If you are familiar to Bruno Aleixo world, you will like it. If you are not, you can feel it a little bit odd.
Bruno Aleixo was in a coma after an car accident. In an attempt to help him regain counscience, Dr. Henrique, an psychologist, tries to induce various stimulous that will make Bruno make a trip into his past.
Almost all the action takes place on Coimbra General Hospital and Bruno's own mind.
A good transition from the plot of the first Aleixo movie.
Good acting and scripting, but sometimes undermined by a low pace screenplay.
That said, if you are an "Aleixo World" fan like me, you will appreciate the film. If not... Well... Guess we will never know.
