  • A meaningful movie ✨

It's one of those movies that gets you from the present to specific moments from the main character's past. The story is beautifully intertwined and touches the adult life and the young days so naturally. It has nostalgic moments and also vibrant moments. Hopeful moments, funny moments and realistic moments. It portrays traveling with trains and the beautiful new sights that you can discover when traveling. But the main topic is finding yourself, getting to terms with the old you - the one that you were - having peace with yourself and what happened and what didn't happen in your life. When a chapter is ending in your life, to find strength to continue your life and decide what you want to do next.

  • A very touching war story

This anime is from a short novel with the same title. After I saw the movie I read more about it on wikipedia. The novel was published 20 years before the anime came . So the anime is from 1988 , it's now a 36 year old movie but the quality is excellent. Great work and talent were involved in the creation of this masterpiece. The creators were very attentive with all the details, from the characters, to the story line and the scenery background . The author of the novel had many requests to approve the apparitions of movies based on his novel but he refused them all. He said that the children of those times would not act realistically enough as the story requires. But when he was presented with the story boards and the drawings of the characters for the anime , he agreed. He said that it is the only way to truthfully depict his story. And the novel that he wrote is semi-autobiographical, that is why it was so important to have everything done as he envisioned.

This movie is ranked one of the best war movies ever made, standing beside all the best war movies ever made. On this level this anime surpassed the anime category and ranks like a cinematography movie.

The story itself is great but the details of the suffering of the characters is many times overwhelming. I believe that the parents should see this movie by themselves and only then decide if it is appropriate for their children to watch it. The anime is rated 13+ , but the sensitivity to the violence of war is unique to every individual.

A great movie to watch, a movie that will bring new perspectives and ideas to contemplate in your life.

  • Great movie! Almost missed it because of negative reviews

The movie is entertaining, captivating. The story is not weak. The characters are great. Very good special effects and super fighting scenes. Each of the main characters are bringing their backstories and those are also very good. Yes, it's somehow like Star Wars but in a good way.

So, you really need to start the tv and watch the movie for yourself. With all those other negative comments I was convinced not to watch it. I didn't want to see something like Gen Z empty talk and robotic actors without face expressions and emotions like the reviewers said they were. But in the last moment I decided to actually start the movie and see for myself how it goes.

It's a very good movie! Bring the popcorn!🍿
