This is one of the best movies you may have not even heard of. After years of having this gem remain on my watchlist, I finally got around to watching it last week. 10/10, one of the best movies I've watched - ever. If you haven't, please do!
There have been several films on farmers which are mostly exploitative projects to milk the sentiments, made for commercial gains and to hopefully elevating an actor to higher levels of stardom. This, on the other hand, a film with a real life farmer (who has never acted before) as a protagonist, local cultural relevance, commentary on the judicial and caste system woven in seamlessly along with spirituality for those to choose to look at it that way. Nothing preachy, nothing on-the-nose. What writing! When was the last time you hollered and cheered for a farmer in a 'mass-scene' that isn't actually such a scene!?
The people in the film didn't really act, because they were simply themselves. The sound design, cinematography, set design, all top-notch.
The protagonist who played the farmer passed away 10 days before the release. Nobody watched it in the theater and the makers sadly lost money on this project. Sad. But I hope we don't continue to let this film down.

A far cry from Taare Zameer Par that still delivers some important messages without getting too heavy. Funny in parts but still a lighthearted entertainer.
TZP makes you care for the kid, this though - the script blows past too fast and leaves no time to pause and care enough for them and their tournament. Any decent 'star' would have done a similar job but I am not sure if it's fair to expect all Aamir Khan films to be iconic. This was a good, enjoyable film, not iconic.

One of the worst movies of the year because a stupid family that decided to sail in a tiny boat from Barbados to Cape Town with an 8 yr old on board.
Watch it for the dinosaurs, visual effects and photography if you can get past stupid characters that the film wants you to care about, but you want the dinosaurs to gobble them up because of their decision making.
