The look and feel of this film, and even some of the plot, are extremely reminiscent of the horror classic "Wicker Man," which is one of my favorite films. This isn't as good, but it is still extremely memorable and haunting.
It's getting harder and harder to find this film-- the remake and the sequels are much easier to access. This is a brilliant film with a marvelous score. Like "The Exorcist" and "The Shining," it uses a creepy child incredibly well.
The original (this one) is so much better than the remake, even if it feels a little dated. This film creates a world which is at once twisted and believable, rooted in our ancient past. Mysterious, suspenseful, and balanced on the edge of reality, this is an underappreciated horror classic.
