This would have been a good movie for television, but as a feature film in theatres and pay per view it is subpar. I want my money back. The lead actress was decent, but none of the characters were developed enough to care what happens to them, and none of the acting was very good(the kid actor was awful, but that's the casting director's fault). The sister was probably the lone bright spot but she only has about 1 minute of screen time. The waiter could have been good comic relief as he had potential, but the weak script/dialogue ruined that quickly. This felt like just another mediocre release from Netflix, but was sent to theatres instead.
The production value is top notch, But everything else about this film was super disappointing. Count Orlock is not scary nor intimidating (unless you're scared of heavy breathing). Lily Rose Depp is simply a bad actress, and no other characters are interesting whatsoever, not even Willem Dafoe's character. Skarsgard is wasted in this. The dialogue is cringeworthy and much of the acting is " over the top". This is like an extremely boring version of Bram Stroker's Dracula. Eggers fanboys will always rate anything he does a 7 or higher, But to me, his movies are incredibly boring with one or two highlights scattered throughout. Skip this messy bore and just watch Stoker's Dracula. Heck, Blade Trinity is more enjoyable than this. 😂
The title sums up my opinion. I find this to be an incredibly overrated series. The violence level is for adults, but the writing is for kids under 15. The forced and crappy humor falls flat, too many boring characters and their character arcs/storylines, etc all ruin what could be an excellent series. It's a series not mature enough for an adult demographic, yet too graphically violent for kids under 13. This is a watchable series, but it is definitely overrated. It would be better if it could decide what demographic to target, and write the dialogue accordingly. It's ridiculous and it's current format. You go from seeing people get ripped in half and blood and guts all over the screen, to watching a boring high school type romance (although they are supposed to be adults). Give me an R rated Wolverine or Deadpool series over this childish drivel please.
