This show is pure comedic genius. It doesn't take itself too seriously and I've laughed my ass off more times than I can count. Definitely geared towards millennials, not sure if older generations would appreciate it. Season 1 has some definite flaws, but they took those to heart and came back with so many improvements in season 2! If you like mind-numbing drama then this is for you, the best trash tv show there is. End of story.
I initially watched the trailer for this show, and as a fan of the book (although it's been years since I read it), I thought to myself, "this looks mediocre and honestly a bit cheesy..." Well, I am here to say I've been proven wrong. The first episode was good but the second episode has blown me away. The acting is incredible, the storyline has so much depth to it, and I love the way that they've captured the lives of the main characters. I don't usually find myself interested in shows/movies that are classified as a "drama", but I feel that this one is definitely worth giving attention to!
I've just completed this show, and will say that I was pleasantly surprised by the characters and plot. The acting is on point, and the storyline has a nice blend of comedy, romance, and drama to it. The episodes walk through the life of the main character, Darby, and shadow her friendships, relationships, and experiences of personal growth. Some characters are annoying at times, but that is comparable to REAL life! One episode hit home for me so much that I was in tears. It felt therapeutic, and opened up emotions that I didn't know if still felt from my past. If you're looking for a show that is enjoyable and has a great deal of depth to it, then I believe you will enjoy it. If you want something frivolous and shallow, then this isn't the show for you. I also believe that this show was made to appeal to younger generations (I'm in my late 20's and can relate to a great deal of the storyline).
On another note, the show desperately needs to change their narrator. I get their idea, but the voice doesn't fit and the narration makes the series feel outdated. Please overlook this detail if possible, as I believe that everything beyond the narration is very well done.
