Had seen the historical Hindi film " Chaava" .As a student of history and a avid traveller / trekker have visited most of the Maratha Forts in Maharashtra before retiring from mountain treks. Maratha guerilla warfare was excellently depicted in this film although with a little bit of Bollywood extravaganza. Akshaye. Khanna as Emperor Aurangzeb was in a different league of acting as was Vicky .Kaushal as Chhatrapatti Shambhaji. A must watch movie for students of history although there has been some protests and controversy by the Shirke family whose ancestors ,Maratha commanders Ghanoji and Khanoji Shirke have been portrayed as traitors. The film has extreme violence and the torture of Shambhaji at the hands of the Mughals and Aurangzeb is violence at its worst. I had viewed this film in Plaza theatre in Dadar in Mumbai and at the end of the film a young lady recited a lengthy patriotic poem which was followed by a young man also reciting a patriotic poem. This film has aroused Maratha patriotism and a roaring blockbuster financial success.
With the " BULLS" of Bombay Stock Exchange in I. C. U decided to chase away my sorrows by seeing the movie " FATEH" on the first day show at Rs 100 at Plaza Talkies in Dadar .After ages saw a orgy of indescribable choreographed violence on the screen and hence the " A" tag for the movie. A documentary style James Bond film on Cyber Crime in India that is authentically scary than the violence depicted in this film. Sonu Sood plays the role of a " R. A. W" James. Bond agent very well as it suits his physique and style. A very relevant film minus the extreme number of dead bodies shown throuout the film as " CYBERCRIME" is a fact of daily living in India .Vijay. Raaz and Naseeruddin Shah as villains do justice to the films storyline .As for heroine Jacqueline .Fernandes she adds to the suspense until the very last. I am sure akin to the " James Bond Franchisee" there could be " Fateh -2" in the planning as the film ends on a abrupt note keeping the audience guessing.
Saw the movie " OPPENHEIMER " at PVR Phoenix( Parel) on the first day second show of its release in India on Friday(22/7/2023). As a student of history found the movie true to its era of " World War II " but was also surprized regarding the bold sex scenes in the film. Definitely a bit censured to Indian audiences. The film was extraordinary in special effects while depicting the testing of the first atomic bomb and subtle in not showing the dropping of the 2 atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Having visited Zurich was amazed to see the Grossmünster church towers depicted in the initial introduction of the film. Excellent movie but could be boring for non history buffs. A Oscar contender and if a film addict don't miss this film even if physics is not your pet subject of discussion.
