Wow this was truly bad. I knew the plot was weird before I watched it so I was prepared for a far fetched story but what I wasn't prepared for was the low caliber acting. Several good actors in this but they were all just awful! I usually love Cush Jumbo but her American accent was so overdone, I couldn't take her seriously. They should've let her keep her accent and left out the part that she was an American living in Europe. It didn't seem necessary or add to the story line. I stuck with the film because I was curious to see the ending but I hit the fast forward button several times throughout the movie if that gives you any indicator how enthralling it was. My biggest issue aside from the acting was the ending. I won't drop any spoilers aside from saying it was totally ludicrous and unsatisfying.
I usually love all of the Harlan Coben series and I was impressed to see some of the cast but who is this awful lead actress? She is totally one dimensional, has zero range. She is impossible to watch. We're supposed to believe she's a badass army chick? Seriously? The clothes, makeup, overly flat ironed hair are so lame. Her face barely moves. Why would they make her the lead? She's nasty w/ everyone in her life, totally unsympathetic character. Also-what's up w/ the massive gun collection she has in her kitchen? Weird! I'm so disappointed they would waste an otherwise great cast. Sadly I can't stomach this series. She single handedly ruined it for me. I adore Joanna Lumley and Adele Akhatar. I'm surprised they agreed to this honestly. I'm thinking they chose her for the lead so it might appeal to more Americans? I'm one and it made me cringe!
This might be the worst movie I've seen in years. I'm usually a fan of Susan & Sam but this changed my opinion of them. How could they read this script and go forward with this mess? The story is totally disjointed and makes zero sense. Susan was 60 when she made this film yet they try to make you believe she's 40 with two small children. Please! And Sam Neil is cringeworthy with those creepy stares. Emily Blunt played a good weirdo(the two stars are for her) but she couldn't save this monstrosity. Also the soundtrack is horrendous!!!! I almost turned the movie off with the Cindi Lauper singling telegram. Did Cyndi get a whiff of this flop? Yikes! Anyway save the $2.99 and rent something else.
