I'm always wary of reboots after such a long time has passed and like most people, I think the series finale of the original series was poor. That said, I really enjoyed the first series and was keen to learn how the Bay Harbor Butcher had changed.
Given the change of location, cast, scenario and the effluxion of time, I think it is best to look at this as a new series with a familiar character, rather than to contrast and compare with the original. Dexter has moved on and so must we.
The new series starts off quite sedately, understandable really, ten years has passed and it takes time to set the scene, introduce new characters and build up story lines etc. Nevertheless, it's interesting to see how Dexter has changed and what vestiges of him and his dark passenger remain. It really picks up from episode 5 when his girlfriend (who happens to be the police chief) starts to realise all is not what it seems and Jim (Dexter's new identity) has secrets she doesn't know about.
Rest assured the old Dexter and his dark passenger are alive and kicking (unlike his victims) and he now has a willing side kick.
Nice to see a couple of characters from Miami PD showing up which provides a link to the past.
Overall, I think this was a success - give it a go, but have an open mind and try not to make too many comparisons to the past.

A short film which picks up on the quarantine issues caused by the current Coronavirus scare and supercharges it! Considering this was filmed on a zero budget using a 7 - year old IPhone to capture it, the result is impressive. Well written, tense and with a touch of special effects at the end, it is a credit to Amy Acker and James Carpinello. I hope there are more to follow. 👌
