Look, it's a stupid action movie with comedy injected into it - I can't hate on that.
What I can hate on is the soundtrack. It's like they picked every cringe-inducing blockbuster movie trailer song they could find and packed into one movie.
Definitely took the tone of the movie and put it in a really weird place for me. I'm not sure what the desired outcome was, maybe to stir emotion or something. But for me it just made me acutely aware of the fact I was watching some over-produced, over-financed action movie with zero taste.

I feel like it lacked depth.
The film to me feels like a fairly surface level skirmish of the gang getting back together for another adventure.
The movie centres around some AR glasses that run a video game. People were being thrown aside by monsters that had no physical presence - doesn't really add up. Felt kinda poorly thought out.
Some non-gang but still important characters are left fairly contextless right until the end, which made it feel quite tacked on as an afterthought.
On the whole, I'd say if you've got a few hours to kill, you might as well. But I really didn't get that into it. It just feels like a by-the-book adventure where there isn't really much a sense of mystery, you know how it's going to end. The good guys win, nobody really gets hurt and our guy is The Hero.
It's cool that anime fans of the series get to bug out about more one round, but for the rest of us it I don't know how strong the appeal is.
It had an interesting premise but didn't deliver for me.

At first, I thought it was amazing. The plot starts out pretty strong, I was enjoying the mash up of matrix/ghost in the shell-ish vibes but I'd in the final quarter of the show, the plot kinda went a bit off the reservation.
Without going into details, I felt like the plot changed direction too quickly and started taking you down a road that was a bit cheesier than what I'd initially expected. The story pretty quickly wiped out a bunch of the central plot points and pretty much regrouped with something a lot more bizarre and harder to support.
They also started succumbing to cheesy gimmicks and events to drive the story forward that I felt were a bit misplaced. I know believability isn't a big deal to an anime dealing with such odd themes but there did come a point where I felt they pushed it too far. The whole world uniting to defend against evil sorta thing.
The beautiful visuals, it's really cleanly animated and I always enjoy when a show gets a soundtrack right. Quite a fun mix of edgy sounding techno and dramatic electronic.
On the whole, worth a watch. I struggled with the final few episodes but by that point my heart wasn't in it anymore.
