I found City of Lies to be an important story which puts the situation of the American police force in the late 1980's into focus. There was a political sway undermining the values we all expect from a law and order point of view. The gangs were a large part of life at this time and it is hard now to remember what impact that had on everyday citizens. Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker have both evolved into absorbing character actors. I saw City of Lies over a month ago and it has stayed with me. I feel it is a classic film that will stand the test of time.
The imagery and subject tell a seamless story evoking desire and lust. Brilliant!
