Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus

  • The Dead World of the Living

Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition elevates the entire series to the pedestal of one of the best survival horror games with RPG elements.

The change in the game structure: from a linear storyline of metro stations to a semi-sandbox open world gives the entire series a unique freshness. Traveling through the post-apocalyptic landscapes of Russia - from snowy wastelands through desert steppes to steamy, ruined swamps - gives an incredible sense of exploration and immersion. Each region has its own history and atmosphere here, which is simply captivating.

The beginning of the main storyline in Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition is one of the best story starts in the history of computer games.

The discovery that life exists outside Moscow is one of the most electrifying moments in the entire series. It changes the whole perspective, both for the player and Artyom himself. The beginning of the game is therefore masterfully designed, because it gives you a sense of an incredible breakthrough, but at the same time leaves questions and secrets that motivate further exploration.

    Details

The game's strongest point, apart from introducing a semi-open world, is its attention to detail.

The game is a story that you have to get involved in as much as possible. The HUD system has been eliminated to almost zero so that nothing distracts you during exploration and to emphasize the survival nature of the game. NPCs are not just a program to perform specific actions and generate random statements - here, each of Artyom's companions has their own story to tell and has a lot to say. The creators' intention was to be able to bond with the crew of the Aurora - and so you can smoke a cigarette with them, drink moonshine or play the guitar - but that's just the beginning. A dirty weapon can jam in the middle of combat, stepping on burnt steps results in the collapse of the structure, and the last bandit from the group will surrender begging for mercy, while the opponent you spare will not forget it in the future. Next, you can observe how monsters fight each other, each species has a different strategy for hunting the protagonist and each chapter includes a different type of opponent. Perhaps the most surprising detail is when you light a fire under a kettle, it will start boiling after a while. I think I've only seen an equal level of attention to detail in the game in Red Dead Redemption 2. The missions are interesting, engaging, and not boring - the creators have tried to intertwine stealth elements with open combat, although the game lacks some side quests that would enrich the entire gameplay.

    Exploration

In this game, every side path can hide something extraordinary - whether it's an additional story or unique resources that will be useful on your journey. Exploration is a real reward in itself, and the world seems alive and full of surprises. It's these moments that make Metro: Exodus so engaging. The game world is full of secrets and non-obvious stories that you can discover on your own with incredibly beautiful, mature graphics that do not lose their freshness even after many years. The light operation module using RTX technology has taken the title to graphical heights. Using the photo mode, you can capture beautiful screenshots, and the whole thing is complemented by a nostalgic, slightly sad audio setting. Graphic, survival, and exploration elements are the strongest pillars of the game, apart from which a deeper history of the world has been taken care of. Controlling Artyom is suggestive, fluid, and perfectly optimized. The available weapons are perfectly used, each of which is useful in a different situation.

    Disadvantages

Despite its huge advantages, the game has not been spared from flaws that have robbed it of its perfection.

Like the previous parts, the game has graphical errors. There are not many of them, they do not destroy the gameplay in any way, but they are visible, occur and distort the entire image of the production. Even tons of patches and the release of the extended edition did not eliminate the game's bugs, and that is unacceptable.

The item crafting system could be more extensive.

I think that implementing an item crafting system in the game is a great concept - further emphasizing the survival nature of the production - however, it is relatively poor, containing basically only a basic reconstruction framework. In the game, we do not have the ability to collect other equipment elements apart from weapon parts, scrap or chemicals, and the game at such a level of realism is begging for the introduction of a hero's food system, the need to hydrate the character or even a poisoning, wound or sleep system - even if not on the lowest difficulty level, then at least on a dedicated game level! Unused potential. Equipment that could be managed would be welcome, because in the game we only get a backpack to craft ammunition or change the sight.

To sum up Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition is a unique role-playing game with RPG elements, which, thanks to the semi-sandbox world, has released the huge potential dormant in the game world.

Brilliantly led, with an intriguing division into chapters according to the seasons and factions occurring in each region.

This is a title that has no right to be boring and no one should pass by indifferently. The captivating graphics and intense experiences resulting from learning the history of the Aurora crew will make many a player's heart tremble.

    An absolute MUST-PLAY Rating: 9 / 10.

  • Metro 2033 Redux

It is difficult to unequivocally assess Metro 2033 Redux as a bad or good game.

Metro 2033 Redux is suspended between a game and an adaptation of Dmitry Glukhovsky's book, with the latter aspect being excellently fulfilled, all fans of Glukhovsky's work will be delighted that they can independently control Artyom's fate, unfortunately as a game it lacks depth, soul.

The game leads us linearly through the plot from chapter to chapter, from location to location, not allowing us to even delve deeper into the specifics of the station - and what was done to Polis (or rather what was not done) was a crime - Artyom simply entered and left.

I would describe Metro 2033 Redux as a narrative game with elements of survival horror. The game's strong points are certainly its atmosphere. The title has a dirty, dense, disgusting atmosphere. Walking through the alleys of the Moscow metro, you can almost feel the mustiness hanging in the air, gnawing at your nostrils. The game rewards all explorers and players who sniff around the nooks and crannies of the metro. It is worth getting lost in one of the branches here, just to find some loot or keys to the safe located further away by one of the dozens of corpses.

And that's where the game's strongest points end.

The title has a lot of technical shortcomings. In each chapter, you can come across a few technical errors. In addition, I had the feeling that the ending was exaggerated by this mysticism - I would much rather watch the dirty, stinking corridors of the metro. And I completely do not understand the essence of the two endings, but I will not dwell on that here. I would give the game a rating of 8, but due to the technical problems I mentioned, my final rating for this game will be 7.

  • Call of Duty®: Ghosts

The story of Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place from the perspective of two brothers: Logan Walker and David Walker, who take part in the armed conflict between the United States and the Federation of South American Countries, commanded by a terrorist calling himself Rorke.

It is a mature and strong story with many themes of revenge, blood ties and plain meanness. Moreover, the title is characterized by a scale that only the Call of Duty series can afford.

From destroyed California, through the Amazon jungle, to a flooded city or a space station. The product is a stock bomb filled with special effects. From the very beginning it was gripping with special effects worthy of the second half. 21st century Special effects and action are undoubtedly the game's greatest advantages. Infinity Ward took care to properly balance the gameplay between hands-on driving, helicopter and tank attacks, and being abandoned to fate with a knife to his soul. Great mix. Each mission is varied with a different approach to the mission using new techniques, and breaking through a city flooded with water is a masterpiece. Our four-legged companion - the German Shepherd Riley, revolutionizes the approach to both the entire Call of Duty series and the FPS genre in general. I have never seen such a system of eliminating opponents using a dog controlled in real time. A very satisfying solution that enriches the gameplay in a pleasant way.

It is worth giving credit to the companions that they are not just a background for Logan Walker's actions, but take an active part in the activities, eliminating opponents or even taking command. The entire campaign is one long action movie that a Mission Impossible movie would be proud of.

And the song Survival from Eminem himself, crowning the intense campaign, is the icing on the cake.

    Rating: 9/10.
