HBO used to be at the top of the TV industry in the 2000s but after the major hits of the channel ended the quality decreased very quickly. I didn't see much hope to be back where they were until Succession came.
The series is about a lot of things but always focused at the right place in the plot, it is just brilliant and wonderfully crafted. Politics, family drama, huge media companies, global and personal issues, every piece of the puzzle comes together at the right time. The acting is top notch, the whole cast gives outstanding performances, some more, some less often than others. The long uncutted scenes are just mesmerizing to watch. Nobody trying to steal the spotlight, the actors know exactly what is their job and they clearly see the bigger picture and understand the characters they portray. This isn't just great chemistry, this is pure professionalism. And that can be said about the other parts of the show as well. The cinematography is cold and slick all the way around, it feels objective, like how a documentary would look like yet it never prevents the audience to feel the emotions what the characters are feeling. The filming locations are also nicely choosen and they totally fit into the vibe of the programme everytime. The score and the intro theme just haunting and masterclass of its own, once again this is perfectly choosen and well thought out too. Not a suprise the script is mature and modern in all aspect, building up slowly the characters and the plot in an unbelievably satisfying way, the seasons just get better and better when the people would think there is no higher. The creators knew exactly when they had to end the project to not suffer from the declining quality and consumerism. There is really only a few negative things can be said, the extra dialogue driven storytelling can be heavy and too much for some people but to be fair those dialogues are cleverly written. The pace of the story can be slow because of the aforementioned reason but it is never boring.
To sum it up Succession is a slick and exceptional TV show which deserves all the attention and praises it gets. It is the saviour of HBO.

Many series from the CW network proved they have invented a profitable formula. Aim the teenage audience, cast attractive people who barely can act, spend the minimum time and effort on the writing of the script, buy bunch of great indie songs and you have a hit programme.
I haven't seen the old 90210 but this is basically just a modernised version of it so I can't even imagine how bad the original was. If you are familiar with the aforementioned formula this reboot is nothing much else than that but its even weaker than what people would expect.
The problems start right at the pilot. A whole family moves to a different state just to take care of an old family member would have made a logical, based set up but the writers forgot to tell what health issues she exactly has. Instead after a few episodes the character get totally written out of the plot and everybody pretends like she never even existed. This started a pattern which is around the whole 5 season run. Many characters are not on screen for episodes or even seasons and completely get forgotten story wise and then they just reappear suddenly with zero explanation just to create pseudo drama. Every character is one dimensional and just an archetype full of clichés and despite that they are oddly similar to eachother. All of them stay the same from begining to the end, literally no evolving at all. In this series not just the teens but the adults fall in love with anybody at first glance, one compliment and they are hit by the arrow of cupid. I swear every relationship presented is the exact same kind of, from the first date through the time spent together to the breakup. Everybody hook up with everybody just because that is what should keep the story interesting. Simply dumb and uninspiring. Easily predictable even for a 5 year old kid.
The random musical cameos are just shallow and pointless because the artists even more popular than the show itself. The last season only happened to promote a singer or band in every second episode. Most people assume that would have been enough but no, insane amount of direct product placement needed to be added too.
If you want eye candy with some good songs then you hit the jackpot because 90210 isn't more than that.

The first part of the show was very good. It had many original ideas and offered something new and interesting.
A slow burning dark comedy with short but meaningful episodes. I don't think it was that superb as most people claims but it was definietly likeable and had some kind of charm. Truly a market niche, sort of like Breaking Bad but as a dark comedy, thats how I would describe the first 2 seasons. The action scenes were brilliant, wonderfully filmed and crafted, all of them felt fresh, professional and entertaining, it was the biggest strength of Barry even in the last part. Sadly the creators didn't recognise that and started to implement less and less of them as the plot progressed.
Season 3 and 4 just became directionless and straight up boring. The series completely lost its way in every sense, started using clichés and became awfully preachy. The characters got weightless and annyoing and just like the plot completely pointless. The acting got worse also, most of the cast members were just reading up the script and delivered most of the scenes dull and not so many effort.
I don't recommend the show but if somebody still interested in, only watch it because of the few amazing action scenes.
