"Lightyear" was a disappointment. I was initially excited to see this movie, especially after the trailer released. But, sadly, in my opinion, it is not some great continuation of the Toy Story arc, but instead a movie made for the explicit purpose of saying that they did.
As of late, Pixar's movies have felt strung together, with no real rhyme or reason to have happened. That being said, Lightyear, from an animation perspective, is a masterpiece. But, of course, not everyone is interested in seeing what is basically a Pixar light show.
The plot feels like a slog. The movie itself felt unfocused.
I am certainly outside the target demographic for this movie, but I, even though they are animated children's films, still find time to enjoy Pixar movies. I enjoyed this movie as well, but it doesn't live up to the hype, and, as a result, falls flat of what nearly everyone expects from a Pixar movie.

Tough one to unpack.
The acting is good, there is chemistry between the actors, the acting front in its entirety is top-notch. However, I do have a feeling that the chemistry displayed wouldn't have manifested without Holland and Wahlberg taking center stage.
The action is great, although in some places the CGI is all too obvious, it will fulfill anyone's action itch.
There were some moments when I chuckled in this movie, which I wasn't expecting considering it being an action movie.
The plot is decently crafted, the way it takes form is good as well.
The major flaw here is that it isn't faithful to the games, according to many. Fine for me, I've never played them, but with a media franchise like Uncharted you can't look at the movie as an independent sort of thing. In the world of book-inspired movies, sure, you can afford to change things around to make things a little more interesting. Book plots aren't for everyone, I'll admit that. But with a video game, where interpretations are solid across the board, you can't make large departures.
You may ask why I'm rating it an 8 instead of a 6/7. That is because this movie in it of itself, is a great one. You don't have to have played the games to understand it. If this were a completely original plot, created just now explicitly for this movie, and the film would have no connection to any video game, then it would easily be one of the best films put out by Hollywood this year.
But it is connected to a franchise, whether or not the creators of this film liked that. As a movie itself, the plot was enjoyable, and the film was one of the most enjoyable I've seen this year. But as a film extension of a video-game franchise, it falls flat on its face in the worst kind of way.

'The Imitation Game' is a brilliant movie. It tells the story of Alan Turing, whose cracking of the Nazis' Enigma has been attributed to shortening World War II and saving millions of lives.
Turing is played, and played excellently, by Benedict Cumberbatch, who has since gone on to a bit more fanfare playing the character Doctor Strange for Marvel.
This movie makes you think. It doesn't depict Turing as some perfect man. He was depicted as quite controlling and narcissistic in the film, but that kind of film is the best.
One that doesn't glorify its heroes and characters, one which shows imperfections, but at the end of the day, still leaves the viewer in support of the person being portrayed.
Definitely a must-watch for anyone interested in movies of any historical flavor.
